Fourth Year
Sapphire stood in the stands of spectators next to Mrs. Weasley and Hermione, and everyone was chattering excitedly. The champions had entered the maze a while ago now. Sapphire fidgeted, her stomach uneasy, as it had been all morning. She adjusted Harry's watch on her wrist, and ran her hand over her sweater to feel the bump of the necklace she had found the night before. She wore it in the hopes that she might gather the courage to ask her father where it was from.
She was thinking of ways to ask him when it felt as if she had been plucked from her seat and dropped into a cold and dark ocean. She tried to call out, but she couldn't make a sound. The darkness quickly formed into shapes- a graveyard. Harry and Cedric were there, with the Triwizard cup. Sapphire tried to get Harry's attention, but realized he definitely couldn't see her.
"Kill the spare," said a voice. It sounded as if it travelled through several tin cans before she heard it. A flash of green light, Harry screamed, Cedric was dead.
She tried to move towards him, but was instead whisked to the other side of the scene as he was trapped by Wormtail. Sapphire watched, helpless and far away as The Dark Lord rose from the dead. She saw the faces of the Death Eaters who returned to him at his call.
Then he started to try and duel with Harry. Sapphire felt as if she was tied to the air, thrashing against invisible ropes to try and help.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Expelliarmus!"
There was a flash of the most brilliant golden light, and Sapphire awoke back in the stands with a scream, to find Mrs.Weasley holding her up as if she had passed out.
"Oh, you're alright, you're alright, I've got you," Mrs.Weasley said gently, but Sapphire's heart beat a thousand times a minute.
"Professor Snape!" Hermione called from her other side, and Sapphire shot up out of Mrs.Weasley's arms and searched the crowd for her father. He had just started up the stands towards them.
"Don't move too much dear-" Mrs.Weasley started to say, but Sapphire transformed and flew to her father.
"What's happened? I saw you fall," her father said, reaching out to brush her hair off her shoulder, but Sapphire was breathing heavy and shook her head.
"It's Harry. I saw-"
The stadium erupted in cheers as Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory reappeared in front of them. No one had noticed yet.
"Cedric," Sapphire breathed, her eyes filling with tears. "Dad, he's..."
Snape nodded quickly to cut her off, as he could already tell. He hurried forward after Dumbledore towards the scene. Sapphire went to follow them, and heard Dumbledore say to keep everyone back.
Sapphire changed into an owl and flew to land on her father's shoulder. Harry was laying over Cedric's lifeless body, sobbing, and Dumbledore pried him off.
"He's back! Voldemort's back!" Harry cried, and Sapphire's heart stopped. She really had seen the resurrection of The Dark Lord.
"Let me through! That's my son! That's my boy!" Mr.Diggory came from behind them, falling to his knees in agony. Sapphire chirped and turned to bury her face into her father's hair, as she couldn't stand to watch any longer.
"Severus, where is Harry?" Dumbledore asked, and Sapphire returned her attention to the world. "Come, we must find him."
Sapphire stayed on her father's shoulder as he, Dumbledore, and McGonagall headed towards the castle. Before they left the stadium, Dumbledore suddenly stopped and looked at Sapphire. "Go to my office and wait, please."
