What are some of the most interesting conversations between your heart and your brain?
I am walking towards home when the familiar smell hits my nose.

“Go for it! Go! Go!” Says my heart jumping.

“No. You know you had said you will stay away from it. You are better than this Shefali.”

I look longingly at the stall. Crisp Puris are adorned all over the place with mouth watering water teasing my senses.

“See, you can have one plate today. Just today. From tomorrow we won't have it.” My heart makes it easy.

I take a step when my mind goes,

“You had promised. You would stay away from this junk.” My mind warns me.

“It's PaniPuri! It's not junk.” My heart is offended.

“Have you looked at the way they prepare the water?”

“So? We have been having it since years, has anything ever happened before?”

“That doesn't mean it will never happen.”

I stand there a few feet away waiting for my heart and my mind to come to a decision.

“So should I have it or not?” I ask them.

“Have it. Listen to me. Even people say the same thing. ‘Listen to your heart, you can never go wrong.’ Right?”

“Bullshit. That's for decision making. Not for eating unhygienic food on the street, moron!”

“Hey… I have feelings okay?”

“So? Shefali, listen to me. You have already been away from it for more than a month. You can do it. Have control. Walk towards our home. Our family is waiting for us.”

“And they are not meeting us after a decade! We just left them at home a few hours back.” argues my heart.

“You shut up.”

“You shut up.”

“Madam, what happened? Why are you standing there? What do you want? Pani puri or something chaat?” asks the PaniPuri guy.

“PaniPuri... PaniPuri. Say it. Say it. Shefali!” Screams my heart.

“No. No. Listen to me, please.” goes my brain.

“Nothing, bhaiya.” I gulp my desire and start walking.

“Yes! Yes!” My brain starts celebrating.

“I have never been more humiliated in our whole life.” Says a dejected heart.

“I am sorry.” I say sadly.

“You very well be.”

“Hey, heart. Stop sulking.” Says my mind.

“You shut up. I am not talking to you.”

“Okay, stop it. I have almost reached home. I don't want to look stupid standing in a corner of the house, like a zombie listening to you both.” I warn them.

There is silence.

I open the door to see husband and daughter coming towards me smiling. They then close my eyes.

“What going on?” I ask.

“Surprise!” They scream. I open my eyes to see bowls of Puri and the mouthwatering water on the table.

I smile. No, scratch that. I grin with all my heart.

There is dancing inside my head and heart, which overwhelms me.
