The sad part is I'm a wolf that lives with vampires, instead of learning to hunt with a pack i've watched vampires feed off mortals.
You can say I'm adopted, it is known that wolves are of mortal decent, meaning among the mortals a wolf is born of human parents, it's like a lottery, who gets chosen to be a wolf, the mortal parents will never know.
Eventually the young wolf will discover another wolf, due to our strong sense of smell, a pack is formed over-time with more wolves.
The role of the wolf is to protect the humans, from such as vampires, demons, etc.
As it turns out, vampires aren't harmful to mortals, they used to be, then they discovered a way to feed off a human without killing it, i live among those vampires.
Some vampires didn't like this new method, stuck to the traditional way of bloody murder, these old style vampires call themselves the Vampaneze.
Another thing about wolves is that someday if you're lucky, you'll find your mate, until then you can 'flirt' and have sex among the mortals, don't worry you can't hurt them and they can't get you pregnant either.
(I'm using the vampaneze idea from the Darren Shan books, if you've read them you know they get along quite well with wolves (the animal) so I'm putting it in a way that they used to hate each other but now on good terms and the wolves can turn to human form)
