A/N: I'm making these chapters once a month (26th but I forgot lmao). And, sorry for not making this very good, I couldn't think of a way for elongating someone not wanting to go on a trip haha. I swear the next chapter will be MUCH longer.

My bags are packed. I'm not ready, though. Even if I'm supposed to succeed due to me being blessed, the Gods don't love us so I'll be dead by the time I even get one tenth of the way. I know my duty is to protect the people I know and cherish but it feels as though they don't want me. All my time on the hellhole we call Earth may have been for nothing, but at least some people put their hope in me reaching a target I will never hit. As the Priest's tale gets more and more detailed, the whole shenanigan looks more like a shitty fan-fiction someone made online. All I can do is hope for the best. Finding Matt or any reminiscent of him would be the best.

The clock ticked silently to countdown the minute I must go. Dreadfully, it seemed as though time went so much slower when waiting for something to happen that you don't want to— like the opposite of having 5 minutes left on an important test.  My body language was in an anxious state, which is normally strange. In all honesty, I would've loved to leave this place and die. Suicide wasn't ever a bad option. To get rid of my own life and burdens, would be a blessing. Sadly, it wouldn't be to the people he knew because they'd lose my necessary skills in hunting.

My thoughts were interrupted by someone calling his name.

"Tom! You must go now, or else you shall fail," The priest commanded but after no action from myself, she shouted, "SCOOT." Instantly, I picked up his things and walked off the land belonging to my colony. Peoples' face looked dismayed with a mixture of happiness in them too. Even if their best hunter was leaving the pack, it'd be okay. Someone else could learn, like the people I was training. Most of the people living there were waving and cheering for me but I couldn't smile back. My heart was heavy, and for the first time in years felt like crying. I was going to leave these people and put false hope in their brains that everything was going to be fine. This was crushing, but I had to. They'd kick me out anyway if I didn't. A God who gave up on us is what I have to believe in now. Lord, even if there is one, help me.

Stepping out into the wasteland, wind whipped around my feet. The backpack I had was all I needed, supposedly. Taking a deep breath, I started pacing slowly into the unknown.
