For Mariah, raising a kid was never easy. She tried to learn English with the help of Dahlia, but she found it far too difficult. On the other hand, Shadow picked up English and Spanish quickly.
Life wasn't any easier. Always hiding either herself or Shadow, shame and guilt always filling her body when Shadow would ask why they were hiding. And Mariah always answered with, "It's okay, we're just playing silent hide and seek. Now don't say a word and you'll win." And Shadow would nod with pride shining in her eyes. Mariah always swore that she would legally adopt Shadow the day Mariah became a citizen.
