The first thing I do when I get home is run into my room and take out my phone. I check instagram as fast as possible. Then I look up Finn's account.( only knowing it because I had heard him whisper it to his friend once) I go to his most resent updates and notice a picture of him holding a girl's hand;with the girl's t-shirt in the background which reads,"D.G." No,no,no! Everyone's gonna know it's me because only one person has that shirt with those insisals: me.
Why is he even doing this to me! I read the headline above the picture and gasp. It says, "Dora Googen is in love with me. Bearly even know her, what an idiot." I put my hand to my mouth in shock. That little... I pinch my nose and close my eyes, telling myself to calm down.
And that's when I hear a knock at my door. I don't answer. The door suddenly opens and I swiftly shove my phone into my back pocket. It's mother. "Hey, sweetie. Are you okay? Your face is all poofy and red." I don't attept to move away as my mom sits beside me on my small, creaky bed. I just shrug half heartedly.
I think about telling my mom the truth. Great. Just great. "Finn posted a photo of us holding hands. So now the entire school knows." My mom puts her fingers to her chin in concentration. "Do you like him, I mean you must if you held his hand." I give my mom a look that says, "You know that I can't control it because of my stupid "power" and all." Mother nods and smiles lightly. "I get it. But that does not mean you can't have feelings for him."
I put my head down in defeat. "Mom! Im going to be honest with you, I did have a small crush on him but now I obviously don't. Okay, end of conversation." Mom puts a strand of her black hair behind her ear before whispering,"Im sorry. Just remember. People act the way they do for a reason you know. A bully isn't just a bully because they wanna be. They do it to let all of their anger out on someone else instead of having to deal with the person they are mad at. Get it?"
I nod my head in understanding. "I think I do, thanks mom." I say to her with a grin that tells her im trying. She gives me her own as she pats my shoulder. "Hang in there."
...
With all that has been going on recently I defiently wasn't in the mood to work with anyone at the moment but the teacher insisted we partner up for this dumb math activity. So I did, of course. "You wanna work with me? " I ask the only girl I know in this entire class. And I wouldn't even say I know her. I've just seen her in gym class and sitting alone reading before. And sometimes I ask her how to do a problem I don't quite understand.
She seems nice enoufe. "Sure, why not? " She says in possibly one of the most soft-spoken voices I have ever heard in my entire life. "Great. I sit now and hand her the worksheet. "You know how to do number one? " She sits down at a desk beside me and shakes her small head. "No, I mean yes. I do know how but mabye you should try it. "
She pushes the paper towards me. Im a little suprised as I set it down on my desk. Whatever. I look at it and the first thing that comes to my mind is me solving it correctly and proving to this girl that I can do it. Shi... Now I actually have to solve it correctly! I pick up my pencial as fast as I can and begin to solve the equation.
What do I do next, I think about half way though the problem. I clench my head with my left hand as ot begins to throb. But it dosn't help ot. All I can picture is me figuring out the correct answer to the problem. I force myself to breath slowly as I finally realize that I have to carry the one. So I do. As I circle my answer I look over at the girl. "So, am I right?" The tiny girl stares at the worksheet for a moment and nods.
"Yep. You got it, I knew you could do it. By the way...your head almost looked as if it was about to explode. Are you okay?" I laugh out loud, not meaning to cause two kids to look back at me. I clear my throat to ease the tension. "Sorry, I was fine. Just a headache. Im Dora by the way. What's your name?" I ask her, hopely changing the subject. She twinklex with delight as if she's happy I finally learned my manners or something. "My name's Orabelle. You can call me Ora for short though."
