The Masquerade

Each year at Fricandino Middle School a masquerade ball took place to support the visual art funds. Since Engeorgeiflue was frequently bullied, he could talk to people without being teased for his green skin and large ears.

The most important part of preparing for the masquerade ball was choosing a mask in secret. If anyone at his school saw the mask he chose they would immediately identify him as the person they tease daily.

Engeorgeiflue carefully chose a navy blue mask that covered all of his face and a headcover to cover his green, bald head and enormous ears.

—•The day of the dance•—

Engeorgeiflue's mother drove him in a secret spot near the school so nobody would see her and discover it was Engeorgeiflue.

He walked into the front of the school along with other people attending the masquerade and looked around to see who he could recognize. Luckily he realized that he blended in with everyone else.

Engeorgeiflue noticed one girl, however, that he had recalled was Brando's girlfriend, Amitoranop, and she seemed to be talking to many different people. Deep in thought, he didn't even realize that she was coming right towards him. He started to feel worried until he realized that she didn't know who he was.

"Hey, you look nice tonight," she said politely.

Stuttering he managed to mumble, "Th... thanks... you... you too."

They began to talk about their interests and became friends quickly. Right as Engeorgeiflue was going to speak, Principal Homburge rode into the gym on an ostrich and announced, "ATTENTION STUDENTS—"

"Principal Homburge sure does have a thing for grand entrances," Amitoranop said slightly laughing.

"THE DANCE WILL BE ENDING SOON," he continued, "PLEASE REMOVE YOUR MASKS."

Engeorgeiflue had forgotten about this part. He hoped Amitoranop would see him as the kind person she had gotten to know and not the person her boyfriend, Brando, had bullied for years.

Amitoranop removed her mask to reveal her face but Engeorgeiflue hesitated to show who he really was. He finally realized that he had to take off his mask at some point and slowly removed his mask and headpiece to show Amitoranop his face...
