"I grew to understand that people don't always build walls to keep others out. It's done out of a necessity to protect whatever is left within."

I feel lonely even when I stand in the middle of a crowded room, surrounded by hundreds of people. Everyone feels jealous of me. They think I have everything. If only I can tell them that what I wish for the most is something I can never buy.

I, Misha Campbell, aged 22 years, am studying in one of the top medical universities in the country. Well, what else is expected from the daughter of Fredrick Campbell, who owns one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the United States. My father achieved success at a very young age of 25 years. But, to attain that he gave up on many things in life, including his family. He was so involved in his work that he never had time for us.

I think I am part of his life, but not exactly present in his life.

He thinks that he has given me everything in life, well if in his language the word 'everything' means the things that could be bought by money, then yes, he is right. But one thing that even he could never get me is my mother. She became the victim of his mafia world called business. I lost her when I was 12 years old. She was the only person I ever loved. I have a brother too, but he never stayed with us. He spent his childhood in boarding school and then he went to college. Later, he moved to Texas and started a new job there.

That's my life "alone, empty and loveless." Well, I don't think that now I am even capable of loving anyone or being loved by someone, I am broken.

"Misha..." Martha knocked on the door. Martha is our housekeeper. Since I live in this vast mansion all by myself, she is the only person in the house that I get to interact with. But, Martha and her team have been taking good care of me for the last ten years.

"Come in", I replied.

"Dinner is ready. Are you coming to the dining room or should I get it for you here?" She asked.

"Thanks, Martha. I will have it here, please. Besides, it's not like anyone will be joining me for dinner." Martha gave me a sympathetic look to which I am quite used to by now.

When I am in this house, I spend most of my time in my room. This is the place where I feel calm and warm. I have not changed its décor since I was 11 years old, and I still love it, the way it is. While having my dinner, I was watching the daily news on television. Suddenly, news flashed "Clash of the Pharma Giants!" It caught my attention. The news was about my father's company. It reported that Lincoln pharma, our competitor, claimed that the latest medicine launched by Campbell pharma was their formula. Further, Lincoln pharma said that one of their researchers stole the formula and sold it to Campbell pharma.

I switched off the TV as I have to get up early for my morning classes. I take my studies seriously, studying medicine is no piece of cake. It's not like I am trying to follow my father's footsteps to choose the medical field. But, I always wanted to be a doctor since I was six years old.

Next morning, I opened my eyes to heavy sunrays falling on my face. Martha must have drawn out the curtains, and she was standing by the window with a smiling face, "Good Morning, Misha dear."

"Aww, Martha please pull back the curtains." I tried to cover my face with the blanket.

"Oh dear, you will get late for your classes. I brought your favourite cuppa." Martha said while she was trying to pull the blanket off my face. I finally got up and stretched my arms, and then I took the sip of my favourite cappuccino.

"Hmm. Thanks for the amazing coffee, Martha, you are a life saver." I finished my coffee and then got ready for the day.

I came down to my driveway where Max greeted me. "Good Morning, Miss Campbell, how are you today?"

"I am good Max, how are you?" I asked.

"I am very well, are we ready to go?" Max asked.

He is my personal bodyguard. As the daughter of the most influential man, it has its constraints. My father has many enemies, who are always after stealing his inventions, and they can go to any extent to get them. We have already paid the price for it. Hence, I have been strictly told not to leave the house without Max.

Max opened the car door for me, "I am all ready to do. Thanks, Max."

I left my house for the university like any other day. Since the past few days, I have been getting these strange feeling as if soon my life will change its course to some another journey.

To be continued....
