Harry POV, Diagon Alley:
Hagrid takes me to buy all my things for school. It is in a place called Diagon Alley. It's incredible! There are potions, pets, brooms, and things I've never even heard of before! I get my books, my wand, and my pet owl, Hedwig. I see other students staring in awe at fancy brooms and robes in store windows. All of this, hidden behind an old brick wall at the back of a hidden pub in London!
Something sort of strange happens when I buy my wand, though. Mr. Ollivander gives me two wands first, neither of which work, and then the third one is almost drawn to me. I hold it in my hand and everything just works and comes together. Mr. Ollivander whispers kind of to himself but still looks at me.
"Curious, very curious," he says.
"Sorry," I reply, "What's curious?" He leans his head closer to me.
"I remember each and every wand I've ever sold, Mr. Potter. It just so happens that the phoenix whose tailfeather resides in that wand, gave another feather, just one other. It is curious that you should be destined for that wand, when it's brother gave you that scar." He points at the lightning bolt shaped mark on my forehead. This is surprising and a bit confusing, so I decide to ask Hagrid about it.
Hagrid and I are sitting at a table in The Leaky Cauldron, and I ask Hagrid about what Mr. Ollivander said. He explains how there was a wizard who went bad, the baddest of them all, whose name was Voldemort. He killed many people, including my parents. He was only trying to kill me but my parents protected me and he killed them. Hagrid says that when You-Know-Who tried to kill me, it backfired, weakening him and leaving only a scar on my forehead. He then tells me that You-Know-Who's never been seen since.
Hermione POV: London
Mum, Dad and I are on Charring Cross Road in London, approaching the building McGonagall told us to. I don't know how this old building will take us anywhere special, or how I've never noticed it before. We finally get up to where McGonagall explained, and see nothing. It isn't until I take a step closer that a door appears. Woah! This is impossible! We walk in and look around. There are many shabby-looking men and women in long robes carrying what appears to be decorated sticks with them. Just as McGonagall told us, we exit out through a back door and it takes us to a small alley with nothing but a brick wall.
"This was all a trap!" Dad shouts, confused. But McGonagall said something about tapping a certain brick.
"Didn't she say to tap the brick that was three up and one across?" I mention and Mum does exactly that. It works! The wall starts opening up to create an entrance, and through the hole, I can see a huge city bustling with people.
It's amazing! I buy all my school supplies and learn so much about this new world I'm a part of just by looking around me and listening. I hear other young people just like me talking amongst themselves. One person mentions something called Quidditch which, if you ask me, sounds like a made-up word.
There are so many shops in Diagon Alley, my favorite is the bookshop called Flourish and Blotts. It's filled with volumes and volumes of magical books. I stock up on all the necessary books and a few extra, just to be prepared. Apparently, the magic world's shopping district has an ice cream shop in it, so Mum and Dad and I get some before leaving. As we exit back into London, I look back at what I've bought and feel that I am well prepared for my new school year at Hogwarts.
