The blinding lights above woke me up further, as I began to blink rapidly trying to adjust my eye sight. I forgot almost everything that occurred before, my mind foggy as I could only focus and concentrate on the throbbing directed to my head. Feeling as if someone had been hammering a blunt object repeatedly, the jolts of pain almost shocking. Where was I? What happened? I don't understand."Mallory? Can you hear me?" A voice waved in an out of my ears, my eyes still adjusting to the bright lights, as a blurry face was standing in front of me. Three blurry faces actually.
"Oh my god. Mal! Are you ok? What happened?" The women asked, rushing to my side as I lied on my back on some type of soft, white material. Her face still blurry as my eye sight was beginning to kick in further. It was my Mom beside me, my Dad above her, and some man wearing a white coat that matched the gown I was wearing, along with the room itself. It seemed to take me long to figure out I was in a hospital, a doctor in front of me as well. What? What was going on?
"W-why am I here? What's happening?" I asked up, looking more at the doctor who I figured would have the answers, as he only shook his head. My parents with tears in their eyes, very worried I could tell.
"We're not too sure. We were hoping you could tell us what happened," he informed me, as in that very moment two other people entered the room, rushing more like as they stepped beside the doctor. It was officer Harold and officer Michaels. Confusion still striking me.
"I.......I don't know what happened. I can't remember."
"When you didn't come home babe, we called the police, and they looked around the neighbourhood for you. They were out for awhile, until they reportedly found you. Mal, you were on the sidewalk, unconscious. Your head was bleeding. Either you fell, or.......someone hit you," my Mother informed me as she took her words smaller, as if not wanting to freak me out as I tried to process what really happened. Slight and sudden memories beginning to flash back to me, as the night was still in pieces. I was on the ground. On the cement. I remember that. But how did I get there? How did I pass out? What happened that night?
"W-why didn't I come home?" I asked, thinking someone might have the answer for me, as my mind was still a fog. What happened? My Mom shaking her head, indicating she didn't have a clue. Peering towards my Dad, who also looked upon me with pity. No clue either. The doctor, and now the officers looked down on me, just waiting for some type of memory to fall back, but it was no use.
"Mallory, do you remember anything from the night at all?" Officer Michaels asked, her leaning forward a bit as something glittering on her wrist instantly caught my eye. Some type of jingling bracelet, and with only seeing that small image, a whole flood of memories washed back into my head on command.
The girl. The girl with the bracelet. I went to a basketball game. Another one. Some of the girls in my grade persuaded me into it. I sat for the longest time with another girl, the one with the bracelet, the one who wanted to be my friend. I had been walking home later that night, running because I remembered Mom and Dad would get mad. And then I saw that guy. That guy was chasing after me, and then something hit my head; someone hit my head. And then I was here. But who was that girl I was talking to? Who was that girl who wanted to be my friend? Her name started with an S, right? A click went off in my head.
"Sherri! SHERRI! Where is she?! Is she here?! Did you find her too?!" I asked hysterically, my memory finally jogging up to speed as I began to recall the events that occurred the night earlier, as everyone in that room peered at me funnily.
"Who?"
"Sherri! I was walking with her last night after the game! We were walking home, and that's when I saw him! I saw him! That man! And he began to run after us, and I took Sherri's hand and ran out of there! But then I was hit on the head or something, and everything went black! Where is she?!" I asked yelling now, asking desperately pleading with the officers now, for they were the ones who found me, and I very much hoped they had the answers. Their expressions made me doubt however, as their worried glares jumped back from one to the other.
