Space Between

Prologue

"Hey Laur, management wants to see you." Dinah says softly, walking into their shared hotel room.

"Me? Why? What have I done?" Lauren asked, her brows furrowed. She could feel anxiety bubbling in her chest.

Shrugging, Dinah tilts her head to the side. "Maybe they're going to make this annoying ass PR relationship longer."

Lauren closed her eyes. "No. I'm not comfortable with it."

"Then go see what they want, them making you do these PR relationships is what killed our friendship with Mila and now look at her." Dinah mumbles.

Lauren nodded slowly, she got up and left the room.

"Ah, Lauren you're here." their manager Emily says, sending her a warm smile.

"Hi." Lauren swallowed.

Emily points to the chair in front of her. "I have a side project for you."

"A side project?" Lauren asked anxiously. She slowly moved over to the chair and sat down.

"Yes, you are going to be writing a duet with someone we've chosen." Emily responds, looking down at her phone.

"Why me?" Lauren furrowed her brows.

Emily sighs and looks up at Lauren. "We figured we would feed into what the fans really want."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Lauren asked, furrowing her brows.

Just then the doors open and Camila walks in with her manager, she was looking down at her phone and hadn't noticed Lauren.

Lauren looked up at Camila and then back at Emily. "What is this?"

Camila immediately looks up upon hearing Lauren's voice. "What?" She asks before looking at Roger.

Lauren was staring at Emily, waiting for an explanation.

"We want you two to write a duet together." Emily tells them as Camila takes the seat beside Lauren.

"Why?" Lauren asked confused.

"Because we want to give the fans what they want; Camren." Roger says, sitting down beside Emily.

"Since when?" Camila scoffed. "The whole reason I left was because you forced Lauren to stay away from me."

Roger sighs and shakes his head. "I didn't want you to be forced apart Mila, that was your old management."

Lauren turned to look at Camila, she smiled at her shyly.

Taking a deep breath, Camila smiles back.

"You start tomorrow." Roger said.

"Do the other girls get to know?" Lauren asks softly.

Emily and roger shared a look. "Yeah. They can know. No point keeping secrets. That'll tear you apart." Emily said.

"Hey, what did Emily want?" Dinah asks, as her, Ally, and Normani sit down in Lauren's room.

"I have to write a song with Camila. They want CamRen to be a thing because it's what the people want." Lauren explained.

Normani frowns and shakes her head. "Are you serious?"

Lauren nodded slowly.

"Is that a good idea?" Ally asks softly, she didn't want there to be any drama.

Lauren shrugged. "Emily seems to think it is."

Dinah had zoned out and was on her phone.

"DJ, are you okay?" Ally asked softly.
