i've always had a battle consistently writing for this genre-Awake took me a whole year to write just because I need a lot of time to generate ideas and suspense in my mind. I decided to take SCAREBNB offline to avoid the inconsistency and pressure I feel when I live-post, and in turn have written a hefty pile of updates for 2019 spooky season! I'm so excited for it to be back this October!
you might need to skim chapters 1-3 if you've forgotton the deal, but here's a lil recap if you just want a little refresher:
Sierra, Cadence, Lucas, and Annie are on an end of Semester adventure, staying at an Airbnb in a remote location along the coast.
Enter Gabriel, Elijah, and James-three strangers who should not be there-and a locked door, which keeps them trapped in the penthouse apartment. One night into being stuck together, and the note for help Sierra left below the door has disappeared, and James is mysteriously missing...

I was standing in the second bedroom, hands on my elbows, staring out of the window.
It had been closed when I'd entered, thankfully. Otherwise, my conclusion would have been that James had decided to jump. Behind the glass the afternoon sun beat onto the ocean, making it sparkle with an inviting blue.
Right now, I pictured us hiking to the shore further up the coastline, hangovers clouding our heads and broad-brimmed hats shielding us from the sun. Lucas and Cadence would go shell hunting while Annie swum, and I'd be following them with the lens of my camera.
But, today we were confined inside. None of us were doing much talking, not since the disappearance.
"Sierra?"
I jumped, turning around to see Cadence entering the room. Her brows were pulled upwards in the middle and her straw-colored hair was hanging in oily tendrils around her face.
"Sorry," she said when she realized she'd scared me. "I just wanted to find you... I just don't think it's a good idea for any of us to be alone."
My heart lurched a little. "Yeah, you're right."
"Do you think..." her voice trailed off as she approached the window.
I wanted to say no, and explain that the window had been closed, but I really didn't know. Where else could he have gone? We'd searched everywhere, beneath every bed, in every wardrobe or cupboard. If he was playing some weird game, he'd surely have given it up by now. It'd been hours.
"I don't know, Cadence."
She shivered, even though the sun was heating up the entire apartment. My forehead felt shiny.
"You wrote a note, right?"
I nodded. "I don't know where it went."
She grimaced. I don't think the others truly believed me when I tried to convince them it had been taken. "I'm sorry for... being so drunk last night."
