Sitting hopelessly outside Sophia College, Pedder Road. The sun angry today, shining as bright as a star, sun, a star, we say? We lost our battle today, we lost it. Me and Subash lost it. There was nothing we can do but drink a cup of chai at Hari Chacha's tapri (sales booth) Our souls crying for help as we head to the booth.
"Two strong cups of tea",orders Subash.
"Brother, aren't we screwed?"
"Yes, I guess. But we'll sure figure it out. I'm gonna screw Kapadia though, that bastard..."
"Chill, chill. Have tea"
Two guys leading their way to us, sit opposite to our wooden bench, start talking with each other. I didn't care less, I clumsily removed my wallet and paid Chacha. And we were ready to leave. "What would you like to have?", asked one of them, the one with long hair, was wearing a long t- shirt, and some denim bottoms. His eyes were magical, reminded me of last summer when I was with Mayuri. "What do you mean?", asks Subash with his not so calm voice. "We know what'll help you guys", says the other one, he was bald and was less handsome, his teeth were dirty, his eyes were dark brown and was looking like Gandhi. After a moment of silence, I asked him, "Hey, what are you talking about?" The handsome one raised his eyes, "You know powder? We also have leaves!" Subash gives me a wink and asks him, "Um? Are you talking about Cannabis? Or weed?"
"Smart guy, huh? We have both but you know we want our leaves.."
"Ya ya, you'll get 'em. How much?"
"This is not a good place for business, brother. Hop in!"
"What the fuck?", I was confused.
"Get in the taxi, Aaryan.", commanded Subash.
"Alright. If I die, ask my mom to inform Mayuri."
"Aaryan!"
So we get in the taxi, smelling like tobacco, I was going to die, literally. Me and Subash were sitting on the back of the taxi and were looking outside the window as if it was our first time in here. Let me tell you why we needed all this,
Ten months ago, 22nd July, 2000, I called up Subash and asked him if he was in for a start up. Basically, the start up world was new but it was the need of the hour. I didn't want to do Papa's business and Subash was tired of being a bartender in Calcutta. After a month, Subash comes to Bombay, moves in with me. And we start planning our start up, months later my girlfriend cheats on me. And our start up fails miserably and here we are in someone's taxi, getting ourselves leaves, all homeless, got no work to do, got no money, got no pleasures, got nothing!
We reach a building, a building which was soon gonna break apart, the building was not in the best condition, I'd say. They take us to the first floor, and open the second door to the stairs, we get in. And, we could see nothing, but smoke. We were welcomed by a girl, she was looking beautiful, was in her towel, life was coming back to place. "Ah! Who are these nutcases?", she questioned and ouch, her voice was bad. Very bad, kinda squeaky, just very bad, and her accent was ancient, makes sense? No.
"Meet these boys, they're here for leaves", says the tobacco guy.
"Oh! Nice. I'm going to your room, Neil"
"Want me to join?"
"No"
"So boys, mind joining us tonight?", he turns away from her and starts lighting his cigarette, looking at us.
"What? Do we know you?", questions Subash.
"Yes, you do Subash, and you too Aaryan"
"I'm Neil and this is Drish. You two know us"
Neil was the not so handsome guy and Drish was the handsome one.
"Oh! Neil!", I gave him a hug.
"Finally, you realised. By the way, still not into hugs but a kiss?"
"Neil! No."
Neil was my childhood friend, our dads were business friends. Drish? He was in my school, and also Subash's.
"Who's this chick?", questions Subash
"Kabya, Kabya Das. This women is amazing in..", replies Neil.
"What the fuck? She was my ex. Remember Aaryan?"- I have no clue what will happen next. Will it be our last time with our friends? Or will things steam up with Das? ~ Aaryan Ahuja.
