I woke up in the hospital, I walked over to Lib in her hospital bed, she's in a coma, has been for 2 weeks. Our parents didn't have the funeral until she woke up, they knew she had to go, she would want to go.
Its 2 months after my birthday, Sunday 15th May, Lib finally woke up 2 days before and she wanted the funeral to be today, this very date.
They had the funeral at the church in the town we stayed at, Wernswood, I walked up to the podium with Lib, she wore a long black lace dress with her hair tied up in a bun. Harley wore a suit and tie with his hair scruffy and his glasses tucked into his pocket, I have never recalled seeing him cry.
Lib stood at the podium, the mic rested in front of her, she clears her throat and starts, 'Thank you all for coming today, it means a lot.' Before she could begin her second sentence, Sky burst through the door and up towards the podium, 'Sky, you came.' Lib asked in confusion.
With tears streaming down her face, bags under her eyes as if she hadn't slept for the whole 2 months, she slowly made her way up the walk way, with every bit of strength left in her arms. She turned the wheels on her wheelchair, using every ounce of energy she had, up the ramp and over to Lib. 'Of course I came, it's my Harpy,' her voice trembling with every word, 'I wouldn't miss it for the world.'
She faced towards everyone as Lib handed her the mic, 'All I have to say is that Harp...I mean Brodie Rose Harper, was one of the most amazing human beings that this world has ever seen. She is...was a beautiful, young girl who was going to get far in life. None of this was ever planned, no one thought that something so tragic could ever happen to such a kind hearted person, but that's life for you,' with every word that clawed its way up her throat and out of her mouth, a tear rolled down her cheek, her voice was shaky and she looked so broken.
'Brodie showed me more than anyone ever could, she taught me how to accept myself for who I was and I've finally done it, I've accepted that I'm lesbian and no one will ever change that. She was more than my friend, she was my sister, my family, my one and only, my soul mate and my better half, a friendship like ours goes beyond the grave and I know at this very moment, that she's watching over us, she's now our guardian angel. Thank you.'
Everyone slowly rose from their seats, with no sound, not standing ovation, just the acknowledgement of acceptance.
I knew that my role in life was to be accepted, my whole life I tried to hide and be by myself, but all that I needed was to finally 'fit in' and I know now that I accomplished that, in under a week but only from finally noticing that there's more to a person then what you perceive.
The funeral finished after Lib finished her heart-warming speech, Harley knew that there would be an uproar if he went up and spoke, as my brother Kyle blamed Harley for my death. I don't blame anyone, you can't change destiny or fate.
I'm just glad he came to the funeral, I know how much he blames himself already and I hope soon enough he'll know that I forgive him.
Before I leave, I say goodbye to my family, Lib and Harley. I stand next to Sky and place my hand on her shoulder, I know some way, in some weird strange way, she feels this, she places her hand on mine, I lean in and kiss her forehead, her bright smile slowly grew on her face, as I whisper 'I'll never forget you, I love you'.
She quietly whispers back, 'Forever and always, I pinkie promise.'
