"Do I need to get you a tutor? C'mon Y/N, even Connie has better grades than you do." Uncle Boomer was lecturing you about your grades, you were failing science and math but the rest of your grades were low C's. "I don't understand what's up with you."
"I'm not smart, okay? Why can't you, mom, and dad accept that fact?" You shouted, letting out a sigh. Uncle Boomer pressed his lips into a thin line then turned and picked up his phone. You guessed he was calling the school, and went upstairs to your room.
There were many things Connie, your sister, was good at that you were not. She was smart and pretty, you weren't. At least you still had your sanity. "I just got off the phone with the school, they're getting you a tutor!" Uncle Boomer shouted from the other room. You groaned, you hated having to be taught by another student, it just proved how stupid you were.
After school the next day you met your tutor in the library, sitting down at one of the tables you began getting your math stuff out. There was a huge test Friday and you wanted so badly to prove that you were smart for once. The door opened and a short, Indian boy searched the room. Once his eyes spotted you he quickly rushed over then slid into the seat next to yours. "Hi, I'm Ravi Ross. I was told I was supposed to tutor you."
"You're just wasting your time." You sighed, avoiding any eye contact. You were afraid to admit it, but this 'Ravi' was kind of adorable to you. Instead of walking away he opened his math notebook, his writing was so pretty and neat it gave you a headache.
"Why don't we start with something easy?" He suggested, but you merely shrugged, mainly focusing on the fast-paced beating of your heart. Ravi then reached for your math notebook, you hid your face as he opened it. Your writing was extremely sloppy and you took a bunch of notes so it was messy. "Huh. This kind of reminds me of Da Vinci's notebook." Ravi said.
"Da-who now?" You asked, confused and embarrassed. You weren't sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
"Da Vinci, famous guy back during the Renassiance. He wrote backwards and had a lot of notes in the margins of the pages. It's not entirely a bad thing." He shrugged, then flipped through the pages with ease. "So, you have a test this Friday on the divison of fractions?"
"Yeah, but like I said, I really doubt you could help me. I'm not smart." You said, Ravi chuckled and you furrowed your eyebrows. "What's so funny?"
"It's just, do you know who Luke Ross is?" He asked, a wide grin on his face. His smile made your heart thump.
"He's that super cool sixth grader." You shrugged, you preffered not to mix with the other grades. Mocked enough by your own classmates, you didn't need kids older than you doing it as well.
"He sucks at school. But I helped him became an A student. So if I can teach Luke, then I'm sure I can teach you." He chuckled, then began showing you how to divide the fractions. Having another person show you how to do it made you realize it was really easy, after shoving down the doubt that is.
You two ended up practicing until pretty late at night until your brain was fried and your wrists hurt from the writing. Ravi was leaning over your shoulder, his hands on both sides of your body. "Hey, you forgot to flip the numbers." He said, pointing towards my mistake. "Guess you're lucky I'm here then." You smiled to yourself as Ravi grabbed your pencil and began fixing your mistake. A blush shadowed up your cheeks.
"Wow," Ravi sighed after you began packing up your stuff. "we've been here for hours." He said, then looked up and smiled at you. "I'll see you tomorrow? Same time?" He asked, you nodded and then started heading home.
