***Talia's POV***
BOOM
A bullet flies across the room and between the eyes of my child hood best friend. I run towards the now red stained glass walls to find my friend and catch the guns-man. Foolish to think of it now. Running in with no one to help. No one was there except her bleeding body and me. Sirens blaring in the background. Someone must have called the cops. This would look bad. I'm covered in her blood because I'm holding her body. Tears flooded my face like a newly made waterfall. I just got her back. Why did she have to leave. WHY... did... she... have... to....• • •
"Talia? Talia!" The mans voice snaps me back to reality. I was so taken over by recent memories that i had been explaining that I hadn't noticed the tears that were streaming down my face. "I understand that this is such a hard subject for you but I need you to concentrate; is that all that happened?"
"Yes sir." I wipe down the fresher streams of water.
"Are you sure young lady?"
"Yes." Was I sure? Of course I was sure! I just witness my oldest friend being murdered! Why wouldn't I be?
"Okay," he said in response, "now, I would like you to explain your relationship with her in the past year. Can you do that?"
"I guess.." I respond quietly. I look over to my lawyer and he gives me a nod.
"So will you begin?"• • •
I sign as I finished decorating my room in my taunts house. I finally convinced my parents to let me move back to my hometown in Montréal. We moved from here when I was in sec. 1, mid year, so now that I'm 16 I finally convinced them to bring me back. So now I'm living with my taunt Marie to go back to my old high school, l'École de Secondaire St-Gérôme. Excited to revisit my old life I go straight away to look at Natalie's contact for her address. Hoping she hasn't moved yet, I slip away from taunt Marie and head to her house. Her mother almost screamed with joy when she opened the door but I quickly covered her mouth putting a finger in front of mine. I had to surprise her.
"She's upstairs." Madeleine (Natalie's mom) told me. So I snuck my way up trying not to make a sound I got to her bedroom door and she was on the phone.
"Non. Jtais dit qu'elle vient la semaine PROCHAINE (no i already told you, she's coming NEXT week)." I only figured she's talking about me. So I knock on her door. "J'ai besoin de partir, ma mère vient de cogner. Byee! (I have to go, my mom just knocked. Byee) What's up mo- TALIAAAAA!" My best friend takes the breath out of me and hugs me half to death. I can't believe your here! A week early too!" My french friend says with her strong accent. See I speak French well and understand it too but because of how English my family is and how anglophone our area is, I grew up english. To the contrary of Natalie though.
After a while of talking and her scolding me she takes me to a new coffee shop that just opened around her house. It was quite comfy and had an amazing atmosphere, until she walked in. I've known her all my life but ever since I moved we've been distant. It didn't surprise me at first but now that I see her I can see the mental and physical change. She got taller, obviously, but extremely skinny, hair dyed black from my memories' dirty blonde. Her fashion sense had gone from a sunflower with sun kissed skin to a black crow with a vampire complexion. I went to stand up and say hi but Natalie grabs my arm quickly and shakes her head slightly. I shake her off and glare. She's not gonna stop me from talking from a life long friend. I walk up to her with a welcoming smile.
"Hi M-" she stops me.
"Why are you talking to me?" Her voice changed. It has no life.
"Because I haven't seen you in a good 4-5 years I thoughts I'd say hello."
"Uh-huh."
"What does that mean?"
"What does what mean?"
"You just 'Uh-huh-ed' me."
"Ya"
"So what does it mean?"
"You really can't get anything through that thick skull eh?"
"Why are you being such a bitch?"
"I'm being a bitch? ME? You're the one who didn't call or text for a good 4 years after leaving even when you said you would. Have you noticed I didn't go up to you guys and say hello? You wanna know why? Your so called best friend became a huge ass bully that I didn't want to take place in so I removed her from my life. She came back though if ya didn't know, she bullied me and used everything I've told her against me. So the reason why I don't 'fancy' seeing you is because you left me behind and in the shit." She took her coffee and left. I look a Natalie and she was looking at her lap.
"Is that the truth?" I say slowly.
"I can explain, it's mor-"
"IS that the truth." I said more like a demand.
"Yes.." and with her response I take my jacket and leave right away. Fuck her. Fuck this. This was supposed to be a good last year.~~~~~
At the end of that week Natalie kept on texting me and trying to apologize. She even went to my house. I still didn't talk to her. I hung out with a few other friends like Jerry, Bryan and Zoë and they explained how everything when to shit but wouldn't tell me everything. Hell, they barely told me about themselves. These people used to be my whole world. Why are there so many secrets between us now? It was already the end of July. Is this gonna be my whole summer?• • •
"So you and Marie-Ann were friends when you came back from NYC?" The male investigator questioned.
"Yes," I lied. Do I know why? No. What I think? I think I want to believe that we were and she was wrong.
"How close were both of you at the time?"
"Close," enough I think.
"I think that'll be enough questions for today." My lawyer chimes in and we get up and leave. The man questioning me stares me down until I leave the room.
