Chapter One - The Call

It was a sunny Thursday afternoon when I got the call, and I was keeping to myself in my room in the small townhouse. I had taken a bath twenty minutes before and was now assessing my reflection in the full length mirror.

Staring straight into my own eyes, I plaited my still wet hair into a long side plait when my phone started bleeping its annoying ringtone.

I picked up the black iPhone in its pink jelly case, swiping the answer button.

"Hello?" I asked tentatively, pulling the phone away from my ear briefly to look at the number. It was a blocked number. Pressing the phone against my ear again, I could hear the faint sound of heavy breathing.

"Marina von Hoffman?" a voice asked, I instantly recognised it to be edited. Presumably so that I wouldn't trace it back to a person, but it's not like I know many people here in Chicago.

Clearing my throat, I spoke again, "Speaking. Who are you?"

"You'll find out soon enough." The person paused from speaking in the monotonous, edited voice of theirs. Suddenly, the monotone voice took on a German accent, "Ich habe einen Vorschlag für Sie." I have a suggestion for you.

"A proposal?" I said in a quizzical tone.

"Ja, einen Vorschlag." Why was this personally continually talking in German?

"What is this proposal then?" I inquired. "And quit with the German, would you?"

"Nein, kann jemand dieses Gespräch zu hören." No, someone can hear this conversation. I immediately froze at German words. If someone could hear the conversation then that meant one of the people on the phone was being tracked. And I had the weird feeling it wasn't me. So that could mean...no.

"Okay, was willst du?" What do you want? I hissed down the phone in my thick German accent. I haven't spoken German since the move from that country to here in Chicago, USA--I had been in Chicago for nearly four years. It came as a surprise to me at how I still had the accent, over the years I had lost the accent but hadn't quite acquired the typical American accent.

"Vor sechs Monaten waren Sie fast für Eingriffe in eine Bundeskodierungssystem verhaftet. Aber sie kann es nicht beweisen, weil man aus ihren Dateien gelöscht wurden." Six months ago you were almost arrested for interfering with a federal coding system. But they can not prove it, because you have been deleted from their files.

"How did you know that?" I asked angrily in English, my German accent instantly disappearing.

"Lassen Sie mich ausreden," let me finish said the person angrily. "Ich möchte, dass einige Codierung für mich tun." I want you to do some coding for me.

"Why?"

"You'll find out soon enough." The person let out a sharp exhale, the sound was high pitched due to the edit and it hurt my ears. "Are you at a computer?" At the mention of the computer, my head snapped behind me to my desk.

Sliding into the cold, wooden chair, I opened the slim laptop with one hand whilst still having the phone in the other. When everyone was set up, I spoke down the receiver once more, "Jetzt? Ja." I teased down the phone and I swear I could hear a really quiet chuckle.

The reply to my answer was an email popping up suddenly. I hadn't even logged in, and the email was an unfamiliar one.

These are the names we want you to encrypt.

Beneath the paragraph were a lot of names, all of them foreign to me.

We then want you to code it so you need a cipher key to see these names. You may choose them, but choose then wisely.

In order to choose these keys, you and your father, Francis von Hoffman, will move to Beacon Hills. No need to worry about explaining the situation, for we contacted him beforehand. He too will be working with us but that's none of your concern.

Your reward for coding all this will be $50,000. You're deadline is two weeks tomorrow. However, the earlier you finish it the more money you will gain. For if you finish it one hour early, you can gain an extra $1,000.

Don't stray from the task, we will be keeping an eye on you.

The Benefactor.

Running a hand through my hair, I slumped in my chair. Not knowing what else to do, I jumped up from my seat and opened the door to my bedroom. My father was stood there, hand held up looking as if he was about to knock.

"Ah, right on time." He simply said in his German accent.

"Shall I get packing then?"

"Ja."

This chapter is a little short so if anyone wants me to, I can add on more like the move et cetera so that I don't have to do it in another and shorter chapter. Just tell me if you want to.

So, this German speaking can become more frequent if you like that, I like it as it's different.

What are your thoughts so far? I like it and can't wait to read it!

Alice Englert will play Marina von Hoffman.

I don't own 'Teen Wolf', this amazing show belongs to Jeff Davies and Co as well as MTV.
