Chapter Three

I couldn't help but groan as I woke up, I didn't even remember falling asleep.

"Hey, do you want some water?" The green eyed girl, Lauren, asked, gently brushing her fingers through my hair.

Swallowing thickly, I slowly nod my head.

"Okay." Her hand disappeared and I heard her walk over to the sink.

Shifting, I couldn't fight back the pained scream that escaped my throat.

I heard the sound of water falling before the sound of glass smashing. "Oh no." I heard Lauren gasp.

"What?" I barely got out.

"Nothing, nothing, just relax." Lauren called.

"Please tell me?" I begged, pain coursing through my body.

"It's nothing, I promise." She sounded a little distraught.

Swallowing thickly, I take a deep breath. "It doesn't sound like nothing."

"It is nothing." Lauren responded.

"Then where's my water?" I respond sassily.

"It's coming." Lauren responded, she abandoned the broken glass and filled another one with water before coming back into the room. "It's here."

Sitting up with her help, I take a sip of the water.

"How do you feel?" She asked gently.

"Like I was beaten to a pulp." I respond, looking up at her.

"Because you were." Lauren said. "I'm sorry. I should have done more to stop it." She put the cup down and pulled on the sleeve of her leather jacket.

Biting my lip, I can't help but get lost in her gorgeous green eyes.

She didn't seem to notice. She just kept pulling the sleeves of her leather jacket down over her hands.

"You're really pretty." I say without thinking.

Lauren lifted her head to look at me and shook her head. "I'm really not."

"Yeah you are." I respond before groaning. "My leg really hurts."

"The guard... he broke it." Lauren said gently.

Groaning, I drop my head back against the pillow. "Why are you helping me? I'm not your kind."

"I was actually raised right." Lauren responded. "Do you have a phone? I can call your parents and let them know you are okay."

"They're dead." I respond blankly.

Lauren's face change. "Oh. I'm sorry. Do you have someone I can call?"

"My aunt." Is all I say before handing her my phone.

"Okay, can you unlock your phone and find her contact?" Lauren asked.

"Not locked and it says Angie." I mumble, turning my head away from her.

I couldn't figure out why someone like her would help someone like me.

"Oh." Lauren opened my phone and found my aunts contact before holding the phone to her ear and waiting for my aunt to pick up.

I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I know, my aunt is in the room.

"Hey, Camila, how do you feel?" Angie asked. "I was worried when you didn't come home from school."

"I'm fine." I mumble.

"You don't look fine. Do you want to tell me what happened?" Angie asked.

Swallowing thickly, I turn my head to look at her and see Karla behind her. "Karla wasn't there for inspection and the guard took it out on me."
