"Remus, please...." You mumble, hoisting your battered brown case into your arms. You have found an empty compartment on the Hogwarts Express, an imperial red train bound to an elegant castle. You place the leather case on a miniscule table against the window, resting betwixt the two walls, merely a five by six cube. The sides are lined with red leather seats, to your right the opaque glass door and to your left a window for the long ride.

"(Y/N), just sleep." He mumbles, placing his own case on top of yours. They both read your initials. His, 'Professor R.J. Lupin', yours, 'Professor (First Initial) C. Noctis'. Your middle name, Celeste, is that of your mothers first. They must have cared for you at some point, but no longer. Besides, they are long gone, killed by a vicious illness. You had no tears to attempt to hold back when you watched their caskets set in the cold ground. Luckily, you had inherited their wealth and land, which then gave you the ability to set free every house elf that you had. Though there are still maids and butlers at the manor, they are paid well.

"I dont believe I have too." You grumble, looking over to your old friend. Remus Lupin has shaggy, light brown hair and a miniscule mustache over top of his thin lips. His emerald eyes are set deep in pale skin, which has long, diagonal scars stretching from his forehead to the bottom of his jaw. He shakes his head, fixing his olive coat, a tattered clothe to put it best. He refused to accept any gifts you offered him, even though you very much want to provide him with luxury he never experienced as a lad.

"You always say that. Now sit down and sleep." You roll your (e/c) eyes, shutting the frosted glass door to the train compartment. You are left alone in the small box, and you sit down on the leather seat. You cross your legs, covered by ebony dress pants, as you shift. You brush off your white blouse, which matches your ankle boots, as you lean your head against the window. Obviously, not everyone has boarded yet as the train is still parked in the station.

"Shut up, Moony." You groan, crossing your (s/c) arms that are hidden beneath your thin, cuffed shirt. You pull your legs up onto the chair, attempting to get comfortable. You've never had a desire to sleep on this train before. It hurts that you do now. James, Sirius, and Peter are not here to keep you occupied. Its the first time you'll be at the castle without them. As you think over these things, an empty feeling grows in your chest. You glance at Lupin, seeing he feels the same.

"I miss them......" You say, biting your lip to reveal glittering white teeth. Your canine teeth are not too elongated at the moment, for which you are lucky. Lupin furrows his eyebrows, seating himself across from you.

"I know, Vesp. I know." You hear the sharp whistle of the train, a dramatically different sound to Lupins gentle voice, pierce the air. Vesp, your nickname of the group, derived from the Latin word for bat. The train shifts beneath you, signaling your departure. You hear a sigh, but keep your eyes focused out the glass that is pushed against your (s/c) forehead. "Please try to sleep, (Y/N). We're both exhausted, and dont pretend you arent."

You feel an argument burning in your throat, but say nothing. You can sense the strain on your eyes, which you know have rings of black beneath them. You were up all night, the last day of August, and Lupin was as well since it was a full moon. Your (s/c) wrists had been chained to a wall, which you nearly tore apart. Luckily, they kept you steady and away from any people. Of course, that was only after you committed a terrible, terrible act.

Before your parents died, they were incredibly aware of the danger you posed. They, once Death Eaters, had no sympathy. They were willing to kill, and to keep your fangs at bay, they did. Many had died, each of which you counted. They needed only to kill one person every year of your life, taking the ten pints of maroon liquid and storing it away. When you were little, they had to feed you human blood every month in a bottle. Finally, when you were old enough to read, you went searching. You had found a simple solution, cow's blood. You switched the moment you discovered it, but you had to admit that human blood tasted much better, and though you hated it, there was a sort of....addiction that you had obtained. Anytime you saw a bleeding person it nearly drove you crazy, but you have been able to resist it.

You had transferred your porphyria to no one, and you never plan to bite someone's neck. Youve gone through incredible pain to ensure no one else is hurt, just as you know Remus has. Except nearly always, you feel that the world would be better off without you. He, a werewolf, you, a vampire. It seems like the beginning to a joke as your eyes slowly flutter shut, and you are left to sleep on the train.

When (Y/N) finally feel asleep, she began to shiver. She seemed cold often, long ago the other Marauders concluded it a possible side effect of her condition. Lupin, who stayed awake until his old friend fell asleep, looks across the small room. He frowns at her shaking body, her (h/c) locks wriggling as she shifts. Remus grabs his nearby coat, picking it up and taking the single step distance to the other leather seat. He wraps it around her shoulders, attempting to warm her. He was always the good boy of the group, even Head Boy at one point. They were quite the group of Gryffindors!

The train finally makes it to a grassy hill. (Y/N) fell asleep rather quickly from her exhaustion, as she often does. Luckily, Remus has always been there. They were all each other had for the past twelve years, ever since everyone they ever loved was pryed from them. Lupin wraps a comforting arm around the slumbering woman, who almost immediately stops her rattling. Remus, who is also extremely tired after the full moon the night prior, leans his head against the backboard. He falls asleep nearly as fast as (Y/N), and pretends to be still in the arms of Hypnos when the trio of Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Harry Potter wake him as they enter the compartment.

Your eyes shoot open. The initial thing you notice is that the train has stopped, and that the weather outside has become a violent thunderstorm that has frosted the windows and brought a chill. You feel a weight on your shoulders, and you glance around.

The box that was once only occupied by yourself and Lupin now has others in it. Three children, third years by the looks of it. One is a gangly boy with ginger locks and chocolate eyes, as well as worn out clothes. Possibly a Weasley. The girl next to him has curly, coffee colored hair and eyes a shade or two darker. Her pale body is covered in Hogwarts cloaks, just as the two boys that accompany her. You look to the other child in the area, and you practically freeze.

'James?'

You ask the question in your head, but realize it is impossible. He died, as did Lily Potter, but you see them both in the kid. His eyes are that of Lily, a shocking blue in his white skin. He has messy obsidian hair and large circular glasses, as well as a lightning scar on his forehead. You know him, Harry Potter. Its obvious the students havent yet realized your consciousness.

You go to move, but halt. You glance right, seeing a veil of fuzz on your arm. Remus has fallen asleep with his arm wrapped around you, and his head has fallen down to make contact with your (h/c) hair. You feel the material of his patchwork cloak on your body as you slowly move. The train is at a stand-still, and a curtain of ice has made its way across both the window and the doorway. It's frigid as you shrug off Moony's coat. You nudge his ribs, and he wakes as well. He comprehends your surroundings automatically, everything from the low temperature to the dark shadow hovering outside the doorway. The ginger, brunette, and Potter all glance to you and Lupin as you each stand.

"Dont. Move." He says as you whip out your ash wood wand with a unicorn core. The pale wand is tight in your grasp as Lupin takes out his own. You take steps towards the door as the shadow floats closer. You see Harry gripping his lightning scar from the corner of your eye as Lupin throws open the door.

Immediately, Harry passes out.

"Leave this place. Sirius Black is not here." Lupin says, trying to get the shadow figure away. Its obvious it wants to find the criminal. Years ago, Sirius Black was your friend, but now he is a convicted murderer. The sad thing is, you finally came to terms with the fact he gave away Lily and James to Voldemort.

"Expecto Patronum!" You call out the spell, taking aim from behind your friend. A brilliant white light, your patronus of a bat, whisps from your wand.

Of all the animals, and you had ended up with a bat. What a bittersweet reminder.

You still weren't sure what the bag meant about you. What could be good about such a vial creature? About what you were?

It flaps vigorously at the beast hovering out in the train hallway. A Dementor. A skeletal being with pieces of skin still clinging to its bones, cloaked in a shredded black cloak that covers all of its face but its mouth; which is merely a hole in its face. The Dementor is forced away, out of the train. You sheath your wand, then turn back to the cart and close the door.
