Chapter 1- McMarried

Meredith POV

Tonight I was going on a date with Derek. I looked at myself in the mirror and started fixing my hair. I honestly was never the type to worry about my looks over a guy, but something about Derek made me want to always look perfect.
I grab my coat and I walk down to the lobby to see Derek sitting doing some work while he waits for me.
He sees me and says "Long Day"
"Yeah" i reply, I felt that.
"Someone out there has a steak with your name on it. And maybe a bottle of wine."
"This is why I keep you around"
"So we need to talk" ugh I don't know what he wanted to talk about but I honestly didn't want to talk right now about anything. I just wanted to enjoy the date.
"Wine first. Talk later."
"You trying to uh get me drunk so you can take advantage ?" He always says that I take advantage of him but I know he's joking so I laugh.
"I think I like this rules thing" we set rules early about our relationship.
"Me too" we put on our coats and Derek stared fixing my coat. We go to leave but then Derek has a shocked look on his face. He pauses for a few seconds before he turns and touches my arm and says "Meredith. I am so sorry"
This really confused me. What is he sorry for ?? Then I see this gorgeous red haired lady walk over to us and then she stands and puts her hand on her hip and looks at Derek.
"Addison. What are you doing here ?"
I still am so confused with what's going on. Who is this woman and why is Derek sorry ???
"Well you'd know if you'd bothered to answer any one of my phone calls." She turns to me and holds out her hand. "Hi. I'm Addison Shepherd"
"Shepherd ?"
"And you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband." WHAT THE FUCK???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME. I had no idea what to do. After she said that I just stood there looking stupid. This man, that I was sure I had fallen in love with, was actually using me to cheat on his wife. She must think I'm a whore who sleeps with married men. All I get out is a quiet "I'm sorry" and I walk off. I hear Derek call my name but I ignore him and just walk right out the front door. I have now idea where to go so I just go to joe's right across the street because the only thing I want right now is tequila. I order a few shots of tequila and drink them right away.
"You look familiar, you've been in here before ?"
"Once, that worked out real well" I remark, thinking of McBastard.
"I know that look. Either your boss is giving you hell or your boyfriend is. Which is it ?"
"Both. My boyfriend is my boss. Which was a problem at first but isn't as big a problem as the fact that my boyfriend has a wife."
Joe starts to pour another shot and says "This one, it's on the House" I grab the shot and drink it as I hear Cristina and George come in and george is cheered for beating up Alex. They come over and sit next to me.
"Let's play a game of who's life sucks the most. I'll win, I always win"
"Well, you don't want to play with me"
"Oh I do, I'll even go first. Derek's married" George spits out his beer and all over the place.
"George, beer is dripping from your nostrils" george walks away.
"Told you I'd win"
"No, you didn't win" what does she mean I didn't win ? Did she not hear what I just said ? My boyfriend has a wife. Not just a wife, a drop dead gorgeous wife.
"Didn't you hear me? I said Derek is married, as in pigheaded, Adulterous, liar married. Nothing you could say could top that"
"I'm pregnant" she's what ???? Cristina pregnant ? How'd that happen, I mean I know how it happen but how did it happen. I didn't even know she was seeing someone. "I win"
Suddenly we hear joe collapse onto the floor. "Okay. Maybe Joe wins"

Addison POV
After Derek's mistress walks away after I dropped the bombshell of being Derek's wife. I just stand there smiling at Derek. He asks again, "Addison what are you doing here ?"
I ignore the question again and say "your hair is different"
"A lot of things are different."
"It's longer. I like it. It's very Russell Crowe"
"What are you doing here ?"
"What are you doing here? You just pick up pick up and leave everything ? Your house, your practice, your friends ? You had a life in Manhattan"
"Had"
"And now you have a girlfriend in Seattle. She seems... sweet."
"The ice you're on...thin"
"She's young. That whole wide-eye thing. 'Ooo he's a brain surgeon' thing happening. But still sweet, which what you were going for, right ? The Anti- Addison"
"If you came out here to try and win me back, you can forget about it."
"I did. I flew all the way across the country to reminisce over wedding photos, get drunk, fall into bed, make you realize you can't live without me" I loved being sarcastic and messing with him. "Relax Derek. I'm here for work. I'm helping the T.T.T.S. Case you guys admitted last week. And from Richard's briefing, I should be —"
"Richard knew you were coming out here ?"
"He asked me to come. Didn't he tell you?"
"No he didn't" I could tell he was getting angrier. I wonder if Richard knew about the mistress and that was another reason he called me out here.
"Hmm. Well. Surprise" I begin to walk away as I whisper in his ear. "The hair though, you know I've always had a thing for Russell Crowe" I walk out the door of the hospital. I feel bad because the mistress probably didn't know he was married but I hate her right now. She made him look at her in a way he would never look at me. She was a small beautiful woman, suddenly making me self- conscious. Tomorrow when I get to work, I'm going to ask to have her on my service, just because.
