The work day was mostly like all the rest, except that it also was filled with casual light hearted conversation that you actually enjoyed. You had picked up that Arthur was a hard working man. And that wasn't the only thing. You couldn't help but enjoy watching him. You were a grown woman, after all. Being sexually attracted to someone, especially a hard working attractive man was nothing new. Especially with life expectancy was pretty low. I mean, live a little, right?
So you went through the day doing basic chores around your quaint little home like grooming the horses, feeding your dog, cleaning your house and laundry while Arthur did the more trying and heavy lifting tasks. You made sure to thank him a few times throughout the day for his help- it was only common courtesy. And then by the afternoon, you decided to take a break and bring Arthur a well deserved glass of room temperature water. You found Arthur in the stables, distributing hay bails.
"Arther," you called, walking over with a couple cups. "Take a break, and have a drink." He glanced at you over his shoulder before plopping the hay bail down, and sitting on it. You handed over the drink to him.
"Thank you." He guzzled the drink. Silence rang out as you took in the view of the setting sun, and how the shadows began to engulf the planes that you lived on.
"Y'know, I may have asked you to work for me as a favor, but you don't have to work yourself to the bone." You turned slightly to look at him.
"That may be, but I only know one thing: Do it right or not at all." It was almost funny how you just knew he was going to say that.
"And why in the world would I expect anything else to come from you, hm?" He glanced at you with the beginning of a smile, and shook his head.
"Well aren't you just full of surprises?" She walked over slowly to him from the beam in the stables and reached out your free hand towards his face, and then took his empty cup to wash it. "Back to work, Mr. Morgan," and walked back to your current and temporarily shared home. Arthur went back to work in a better mood than he had earlier.
--------------
It wasn't until later that day that you came over to him, all anxious and worried, after he'd already finished up his duty that he'd see you again. He didn't have to ask if something was up, because your fidgeting and glancing around made it painfully obvious.
"Tell me wh-" he began before you interrupted him.
"Arthur, there are wolves in this part of the country, and Critter is gone, as in I looked everywhere for him and I can't find him anywhere in the area." Arthur nodded his head. He knew how much that dog might have meant to her.
"Please, go find him. I'm not good with a gun, and my horses are too skittish to be within 5 meters of a wolf. I'm worried they're gonna eat that poor dog alive!" He put up a hand to stop her and without a word, he hopped on his horse, and rode off.
In the meantime while you waited for anything at all. Be it Arthur coming back with critter, or both coming back on their own, she waited. Impatiently. It got to the point where she'd gone off to clean the house to keep her mind occupied, and off of the worst case scenario. Until almost an hour later when she heard the faint sound of a gun going off in the distance. Never a good sign.
-------------
When Arthur came back, it was indeed with Critter. He looked a little roughed up for wear, but he was fine, much to your relief. He would heal. And you were thankful. You had Critter lay on the couch and rest, while you fretted over Arthur. While he liked the attention he was getting, he humbly brushed it off. For the remainder of the day, (Y/N) would go out of her way to do something nice for Arthur, and Arthur would do the same in return.
She made sure, after she'd pried it out of him, to make a favorite of his for dinner. He cleaned up. She set up a warm bath for him. He tended to her dog and gave him chunks of jerky he had left over in his bag. She would be lying if she said she hadn't started to like having him around. And so would he.
