What could she do, but sit and wait like she had been told? Asherah placed her staff against a tree in the clearing then dropped down onto the ground effortlessly, silently crossing her legs underneath her as she did so. Hands on her knees, she closed her eyes. Breathing in, she allowed her mind to clear, focusing only on the sounds of the meadowlarks in the trees and the warm breeze that caressed her face. The mossy forest floor was slightly damp, but the sweet smell of the foliage on the wind was more than enough to pull her mind away from her slowly soaking bottom. Asherah's mind wandered to her vision from the night before. Her vision had told her that if she came to this clearing, her companion for the journey ahead would come to assist her.
A branch breaking off in the distance snapped Asherah out of her trance-like meditation, and alerted her to a heavy set of feet moving in her directions. Her eyes snapped open, and she realized that more time had passed than she had thought. The sun was no longer high in the sky, but was now reaching the end of its descent behind the trees, making room for its counterpart to illuminate the forest later in the evening.
She sprang up from her position on the ground, and reached for her staff. It flew into her hand from its spot against one of the trees in the clearing. Not more than five seconds later, a very large man stumbled through the trees. He was holding a broadsword, and was outfitted head to toe in gleaming armor. His face was shrouded by the darkness, but he stood tall and proud, at least a head taller than her. His figure was intimidating against the backdrop of the trees and the red and purple streaks that were slowly fading from the sky.
She knew the spirits had sent her to meet someone, but the behemoth of a man emerging from the woods before her startled her. This is who was meant to help her?
