past.

donghyuck stared anxiously at the clock freaking out about his parents, they've been in there for almost half a day and there was no news. at all. from nurses, doctors or even the people passing by occasionally. no one answered him, he was on the verge of tears and a mental breakdown he might not be able to handle himself.

his parents recently received a letter from the hospital saying they needed to go for a check up, since there's been a disease spreading recently. donghyuck thought it was rather shady but decided to not say anything.

and now, donghyuck's here seating outside the examination room waiting for almost half a day. he couldn't take it any longer he had to find out what exactly was happening.

"lee donghyuck.. let's go."

donghyuck jumped up to see two masked figures in front of him.

"m-mom?"

donghyuck's mother worked in the same hospital as a nurse, a senior nurse trusted by many. his dad was a commander in the ROK army in South Korea.

"let's go donghyuck there's no use sitting here. i've got things to do."

"i-i okay."

donghyuck's mother pulled him abruptly by the hand and dragged him out of the hospital all eyes on them. what donghyuck didn't know, was that his sweet family would be ruined in just three days.

present.

donghyuck has been having nightmares for months now, after his parents were detained for drug abuse. he was all alone, left only money and nothing else. happiness was nonexistent and he wished he was smart enough to realise those three days made so much of a difference.

he sat up from his bed and rubbed his tired eyes, they were heavy and puffy from the sleep he wished he had. his lips were dry and eyes cried out.

"work.. first day. work."

he whispered to himself nonchalantly as if his soul had already left him.

donghyuck knew he couldn't always depend on his parent's money. technically, his parents never let him use it, he just took it.

he got up for work and plopped on skinny jeans and a huge jumper. it was a creamy white colour that complimented his beautiful melanin skin. he took his phone, a file that had the documents he needed to hand to his boss. and a black mask and sunglasses to shield any questions, and nosy people who wanted the best of him.

"downstairs.. land lord." he said to himself, he had developed a habit of talking to himself, the past few days has been even worse for him, somehow. he hasn't been eating and probably should. it is a miracle that he got hired despite his disliking for talking it seemed like the head of this cafe he was working for, knew who he was. hm. weird.

and, he hasn't been paying his land lord for a few weeks now. he wasn't short of money, he wasn't comfortable either. he thought he should probably avoid her for a good cause. he turned the other way and took the spiral staircase down to the platform at the back of the building, from the small little platform he was standing on, it wasn't that far of a jump so he did. and scraped his knee, but he just wiped off the dirt and dragged himself to work. it was like he couldn't feel pain anymore. he assumed that it was inevitable.

he took a taxi today since he was rather tired, and also thought he shouldn't be walking a few miles if he wanted to gain weight.

he stared out the window and watched as it slowly went from a slight drizzle to a pouring rain, he remembered when he used to play around in the rain with his dad, he always loved sitting on his shoulders as his dad ran around their garden, or stumbling in the mud. he missed those times when there were people to care for him, when not everyone just walked past him while he covered himself in masks that he felt insecure without. missed those times when his mental state wasn't hammering down on him, where he could eat food and not feel all choked up with tears, he missed not being alone, to have someone to cure his anxiety.

"kid. get off." the driver said nudging him.

donghyuck just nodded and took out a few 10 dollar notes and gave them to the driver, he was too lazy to take back the change, he just ignored the driver's calls and walked into the little cafe.
