Chapter 1: Ebony vs. Worry Wart Mom, Tuna Breath Bully and the Annoying “Ally”It was Friday morning, the last day of school and a major day for Ebony. The sun shined through her window, warming her beautiful brown face. Her eyes shot open. “It’s today! It’s today!” As quick as lightning, she scurried to her feet, ran in the bathroom and hopped into the shower. “I caaaannntttt wait because today’s the ddaaaaayyyyy” she sung as she washed and detangled her hair. She used her wig brush as a pretend microphone. “It’s myyyyy daaaayyy yeah yyeeeaaaahhhh, I’ll get into heroooo school. I’ll make it into hero schoooooooolll oooooooo yyyeeeaaaaaahhhhh” Ebony finished getting ready, merrily singing her made up song. She met her mom, Mrs. Williams, for breakfast in the dining room. “Oh, wow you made a lot mom!” Ebony’s eyes were wide open and her mouth was drooling. Mrs. Williams smiled “Yeah today is a very special day for you, so you deserve a special breakfast,” as she said this, she looked worried. “Honey, I don’t want you to get too excited,” Ebony wasn’t paying attention to her mom, she was too busy eyeing the incredible spread that was in front of her. “Why not?” Ebony said stuffing pancakes and sausages into her full mouth. “Well Ebony, you’re different from most people,” her mom responded. “Yeah, Mom I have super powers, smarts and a dream. That’s why I am going to get into hero school,” she exclaimed as she excitedly grabbed more pancakes.
“Honey, that’s not what I mean," Thunk Thunk Thunk “HEY EB!” A loud sound and muffled yell interrupted Mrs. Williams. A tall girl wearing fireproof gloves, an apron and a huge mask came jumping down the stairs with pieces of iron of various sizes being dragged behind her. It was Ebony’s younger sister CJ. “My torch ran out. Can you help?” she said holding a rather large iron bar. “I got you Ceej,” Ebony said as she propped herself on her chair. After taking a deep breath she… Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppppptttttttttttttttttt POP, she farted towards her sister’s face. Fire emerged from her butt and warmed the metal her sister was holding. CJ then carefully bent the metal into a shape. “Thanks, It’s a heart,” she said, holding the huge heart up proudly. She then began to carve into the iron making some intricate designs. Mrs. Williams fanned the strong fart smell away. “Ebony Denice Williams and Carla Janelle Michelle Williams!” Fuck the sister's thought. When their mom said their whole government name, she meant business. “Didn’t I tell you no fire gas in the kitchen!?” Ebony called it Flatulence Inferno, but she knew it was a terrible idea to try to correct her mom when she got like this. “And stop asking her to bend shit at the damn table! Ya’ll got new house money!?” she yelled looking at the girls. “No ma’am,” the sisters responded in perfect unison, while holding in laughter. “Mmhmm,” Mrs. Williams turned her back towards them.
Ebony walked up to Mrs. Williams. “Mom, I am who I am. Everyone else might see me as trouble, but when I look in the mirror, I see a hero. Nothing will stop me. I studied for the exam and I know I did well. I’ll get into a good hero school and make you all proud,” Ebony’s mom turned around. Sigh “I know nothing I say will change your mind, so do what you want,” Her mom defeatedly hugged her daughter. Ebony kissed her mom on the cheek. “I gotta go and see dad before the exam,” Ebony stuffed more breakfast in her mouth and ran off. “Bye Mom, bye Ceej,” She jumped on her bike and pedaled off without waiting for her family's response. She walked up to a large gate. It was very eerie and spooky. Of course, so are most cemeteries. Ebony made her way towards a large tombstone that towered over the others. There was a large statue with cards, a few incense and some old flowers. It read: Here lies Clinton Michael Williams. Father, Son, and a True Hero. She replaced the flowers, lit more incense and sat down; in front of the statue. “Hi, dad. I wish you were still here,” she began, holding back a few tears “Mom and Ceej are doing good, so am I.” she took a deep breath and smiled “Today's the day I find out if I got into a hero school, just like you did. That’s how you became so amazing. You were the best rescue diver ever,” she said lifting her arms, speaking quickly and excitedly. “But, I don’t care what kind of hero I am; a rescue diver, EMT, firefighter, any one of them would be good. I really want to make you, mom and Ceej proud,” she stood up from the ground and brushed herself off. “You risked your life to save people. I know if I become a hero, I can save everyone too. But that’s not all I want to do,” Ebony felt the passion in her voice bubbling up as if it would cause her to explode! “Everyone looks down on people like me, but I know with my powers I can change people’s minds. I am going show everyone how strong we are. I’ll be the first aberration hero and then there will be more and more and more,” she truly believed this. With their being no aberration heroes, Ebony worked very hard to try to be the first. In her mind if she could become a hero then it would make way for other aberrations. Her dream was to help others dreams come to life and maybe even become like the superheroes from her comics. Maybe even have her own little League of Super Aberrations. The girl really loved Superheroes. Ebony brushed off the tombstone and blew a kiss. “Love ya dad,” she said as she got back on her bike and pedaled off.
