Green. That's all he could see as he stared into the eyes of the black beast.
With trembling knees and sweaty palms, he shuffled back until he hit a tree.
The creature continued stalking the boy as it slowly got nearer. It came nose to nose with the boy, drooling as if it had been starving for centuries.
The boy whimpered as it's claw came up to stroke his face in an affectionate manner.
Still staring at the beast's eyes, he failed to notice how his very own claws were starting to grow.
Then, his eyes started glowing, but they felt different. The burn was worse than ever; it was painful; it was excruciating.
He had to shut his eyes and blink the pain away, but the burn just kept getting worse.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the beast had disappeared with no trace at all. Like it had never been there in the first place.
Shaking his fear off, he managed to stand up and start walking. Though it was difficult to see where he was going, considering his eyes were still hurting. He eventually made it to a small lake and crouched down at the shoreline.
The next few seconds shocked him to his core.
Staring back at him was his reflection, with glowing green eyes. The same shade of eyes that were holding him captive moments ago.

Cameron sat up with a start, sweat dripping off his forehead as he awoke from his dream. He frantically looked around the room, frightened as if the shadows were going to jump out and eat him.
He shot off the bed, headed straight towards the bathroom, taking a few moments to stabilize himself as his vision became fuzzy from getting up at such an abrupt pace.
He studied himself in the mirror and let his eyes aglow, exhaling in relief when they flashed their usual amber color.
