Chapter Two: "Stay Strong"
Mikasa
The sun was seeping through the tiny window where I was sleeping in. I woke up to more shouting, crashing, and pounds. My heart began to race and I pulled off the blanket, worried something was happening outside. I quickly pulled open the door and stepped outside. My eyes turned wide. The scene I was seeing was nothing like the ones I have seen or experienced before. The same man who was here yesterday night was here today, this time with about 3 other people. That was when I realized only the cruel things happened to my family. It was so unfair. I watched with a bleeding heart while my dad was getting beat up on the floor. His arms that seemed so strong before seemed so weak as he tried shielding mom and himself. It was no use when another man came behind and grabbed my mom away from my dad. He took my screaming mom away and threw glass at her. She started crying out as glass pierced through her porcelain skin as blood dyed her clothes.
"You haven't kept your promise, Ackerman. I'll keep mine!" The man laughed, kicking dad in the stomach and blood spilled out instantly from his mouth. His teeth were dyed red from the blood, and he just trembled in fear. That's when my gaze met with his. He looked at me with all the despair in this world. I watched with tears filling up my eyes. He only flashed a soft and quiet smile at me. Salty tears dribbled down into my mouth, and I just stood there blinking. All I could do was just stand there hiding, and watch my beloved and precious parents get torn apart from me.
"Hey, there's a little girl here!" A man suddenly shouted. I accidentally stumbled forward and my parents' faces spilled with fear. I stood there, not knowing what to do.
"Mikasa! Run!" I heard my mom scream with a ripping voice.
"Mikasa!"
"Mikasa!"
Two voices interwined with each other, leaving me collapsed on the floor in ultimate dizziness. My gaze darted everywhere, making the scene impossible to make out. All sounds seemed to be muted out of my life and only buzzing sounds were to be heard. I dropped the intensity in my shoulders.
That's when everything turned black.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up to complete darkness and a cold air surrounded me. I felt like I was in a black hole, alone in this whole universe. Was I dead? It wasn't long until I sound my arms tied behind my back, and my hands tied tightly together, I was sure it was bleeding. My feet seemed to be stuck as well. I pushed around with my whole body power. I didn't realize where in the world I was. I tried opening my mouth, but tape had covered it tightly. I couldn't hear anything from outside. I was almost out of breath, inside the tiny and dark place, tape covering every inch of my mouth. Then that's when I started hearing footsteps and the place opened to light. A little boy, about the same age as me gave me a soft smile that assured me, made me feel like I was wrapped up in blankets in front of a cozy fireplace during Christmas. I didn't realize it, but it made my cheeks feel like they were burning.
It was dark outside, with dark clouds covering every inch of the inky sky. Rain poured down as if they were mourning of my parents' gruesome death. I felt my heart tremble in fear, and felt it rip apart. Ambulances came, and quickly entered the basement of this hellhole. I stood in fear, drenching in the rain. My hair were soaked and it started to stick to my face, mixed with tears and raindrops. Then I felt something warm curl against my clenched fist.
"If you don't stay strong, you'll breakdown." The boy who saved me earlier stood beside me, holding a small umbrella.
Pit...Pat...Pit...Pat...
The sound of raindrops hitting the outside of the umbrella seemed slowing down, just like my heartbeat. My gaze moved towards the bright entrance of the basement door. They were bringing out two cots with my parents on them, covered from head to toe with a long white sheet. Their faces couldn't be seen. My beautiful mother and my handsome father. I would never see them again. I felt tears sting for painfully than ever. More pain dwelled in my tears, even more than the times when I listened to my mother cry. Or the times when I knew our family was broke and everyone felt like crying but kept quiet and kept strong.
"I'm Eren...Jaeger." The boy beside me, whose name was Eren spoke to me with a light and soft tone. The raindrops dropping on the umbrella started the slow down again.
"What, you're not going to introduce yourself?" Eren repeated, slightly annoyed yet still mixed with a little bit of softness. "We are your family's doctor. Doctor Jaeger, that's my dad."
"I-I'm Mikasa--" Then I started coughing and a chill went up my spine. The cold and drenched hair was sticking against my face and my face had turned cold.
"Here."
I turned around, when Eren started draping a warm red scarf around my neck. I clutched it, and looked at Eren. I felt happy. I could still feel the warmth of this scarf. The warmth of him. I started to smile a bit, but covered by the scarf.
"You shouldn't have just stood in the rain for so long...geez." Eren said, sighing. Eren had brown hair that came down to his eyebrows. I couldn't see his eye color in the pinching dark, but could tell it was a very piercing shade of green.
"Let's start heading home." Eren said after awhile. I was still wrapped around the nice scent of the scarf, and the warmth making me feel like I was taking a warm bath in the bathtub. I looked at Eren, then asked quietly.
"But...Where will I go...?" I found my heart ripping again. My parents were gone. My house was not my house anymore. I had no family.
"You'll live with us for now." Eren replied. He then grabbed my wrist and started walking. I had to keep up with him, just to get under the umbrella, and not get hit by any raindrops.
And that's how I got to meet...
The love of my life.
Eren Jaeger.
