I remember when I first felt like I truly belonged somewhere.  A place far from where I'm from.  Strange buildings, customs, and colors, all beautiful.  It started from when my best friend lost his mother.

My friend Peter was a little different from the other boys at school.  I mean he loved to play and do sports just like the other kids, but he had an adventurous side that he mostly kept to himself and only showed to me and his family.  He was a grade older than me, for which he received teases and beat-ups from the kids in his age group, but he didn't seem to care.  I was there with him when his mother died.  She was such a lovely person.  She always called us in to give us freshly-baked cookies and snacks.  She had such a soft and kind heart.  I felt like I had lost half my heart when she passed.  Peter lost all of it.  He was more than devastated.  He never wanted to accept that his mother was sick, so when the time came when the illness really overtook her, he looked away.

He escaped from his Grandpa's arms and ran outside of the hospital into a small field of grass.  I follwed him.  A drone sound echoed over the field and a beam of light shined down own a crying Peter and a somber me.  And then as if the whole concept of gravity never exhisted on Earth, we floated upwards.

As much as we wanted to stick together, well, that didn't happen.  Ravagers had captured us.  We would now see the galaxy.  Multiple, actually.  But we weren't kept together for long.  We were separated by a complete accident.  A fleet of small air-crafts shaped like golden stars stormed the Ravager ship led by our captor Yondu Udonta.  The fleet was of the Xandarian Nova Corp, the Capitol of the Nova Empire.  That's where I ended up.  And I assume Pete stayed with the Ravagers.

I was raised by a man named Saal.  He was and still is a noble man.  He is the Denarian of the Nova Corp.  He is cold, poised, and a bit rigid when he's on duty, but he was always warm and comforting to me.  He is like the father I never had.  He had me enlist into the Nova Corp when I was 16 years old.  I remember my first day.  It's like a school or military academy.  It took me a while to make friends.  I met my closest friend in the cafeteria one lunch.

But enough backstory.

I'm Tara Rose Moreau.  I am terran, born in Paris, France but moved to the United States of America when I was about three.  And now I am a Corpswoman for the Nova Corp on Xandar, the second highest officer rank just below Denarian.  I am the only corpswoman.  Despite my high ranking, I like to patrol the streets of Xandar like a regular officer and oversee and protect the citizens from upclose, not from a desk and chair in some office.

One fine day on Xandar...

I was cruising through the streets of Xandar just after I picked up a cup of liquid that would equal coffee on earth.  I had the tactical Corpwoman uniform on, pants and not a skirt and fold-over collar jacket.  And I love my light-weight calf-high combat boots built for comfort.

I was walking on one of the upper level bridges that looked over one of the local fountains when I spotted two creatured hanging around the fountain.  A tall tree-like creature and small...raccoon.  I've always loved raccoons.  They were my favorite back on earth.  I leaned on the railing and sipped my drink, observing from afar.  Then on my left, a man and a green woman were fist fighting on the ground.  Violently.  She got up and ran my direction.  The man pulled out a small weapon and fired, wrapping the woman's legs in electrically-charged wire.

I pulled out my firearm and aimed in their direction.

"Nova Corp Police, stay where you are!" I yelled.  The crowd of people gasped and started backing away from the scene.

"Sorry, honey.  Not this time!" the man ran to steal my gun.  I drew it back and grabbed his whole arm, pulling his shoulder into mine and flipping him backwards onto his side.  I reached for my handcuffs when the green woman swung her leg back and kicked me onto my bottom.  She jumped off the low bridge and onto the level of the fountain.  The man followed.
