Brock stared dully at the numbers passing by on the elevator scale. A light whir buzzed in the silence of the cage, causing him to squint his eyes in annoyance.
This had been the fourth time this week his father had called him up to his floor, and his intimidating demeanor was starting to get old. He glanced down at his watch, reading 12:07. He was 7 minutes late. Brock knew he was going to get yelled at just for that.
A small ding sounded, bringing him out of his thoughts as the elevator came to a stop. With a sigh, he continued down the hallway to his father's office. No employees lingered in the halls, as they were busy typing away on their computers. Brock slowed his pace, wanting to take as long as he could to get there.
He knew it was frowned upon by many to act the way he did, but he couldn't help it. His life was just so boring, filled with arranged meetings and fake friends, he had to make it more exciting.
Bringing his hand up, he took out his lip piercing, as he knew his father didn't like it either. Shoving it into his pocket, he finally reached the looming door, and with a deep breath, pushed his way inside.
He was surprised to find that his father wasn't at his desk like always but rather stood up by the large window that displayed a beautiful view of the city. Anyone else would assume that the elder was relaxed at the moment, but Brock knew better. He could tell by his tense expression and narrowed eyes that he was in trouble.
Gathering all of his courage, he finally mustered up a small, "Hey, dad." Before his father turned around. His expression was one of quiet concern and slight vulnerability, which reminded the younger of his mother.
"Hello, son." After that he turned once more towards the window, almost entirely ignoring the other. Brock felt slightly offended, but also relieved that he might have been let off the hook. He took silent steps towards his father before standing beside him.
Looking out the window, he stared at the city ahead of him.
The sun's light reflected off of the other mirrored tall buildings, in turn making them light up with a nearly blinding glare. It reminded him of how much he loved the city. He never would want to leave as long as he lived.
The thought brought a small smile, one that disappeared rather quickly at the next news his father delivered.
"Son, you are being sent to Ireland."
