It’s been years since you’ve seen him. In person, that is. Last time you saw him was exactly 4 years ago at your best friend Ashley’s birthday party. You guys had been fighting since 5th grade, and you couldn’t stand him. He was always guarded and so unfriendly except for his circle of friends. The only reason you ever associated with him was because Ashley had a huge crush on him. Now, you both were 20, and were going to Ashley’s house for her 21st birthday. He’s now famous, and you didn’t like him anymore than before. You both got to Ashley’s house early, and he came a minute after you. He walked in and whisked Ashley off her feet with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Had he gotten more attractive?
He turned to you and smiled a genuine smile, “Hi. You look great!” Slightly taken aback, you smiled and said, “You too. Congrats on everything.” You both helped Ashley finish setting up and people started arriving. In 30 minutes, the place was bumping. You grabbed a coke, and went talking to people. Soon enough, one of your old friends, Sam asked you to go dance. You agreed, and you both danced playfully for about 20 minutes, and you were exhausted too soon. You excused yourself, and found your way up to the guest bedroom. Unfortunately, you didn’t realize that a couple had already taken the room, and you quickly walked out.
After checking every room in the house, each one occupied, you walked out to the upstairs patio, finding peace. You sat down in one of the chairs, and closed your eyes.
“Don’t scream,” Zayn said from a seat next to you. You jumped up, thinking you were alone.
“Sorry, I can leave if you want,” you said, starting to slowly get up.
“Hey, hey, no, please stay, as long as you don’t ask for an autograph,” he chuckled.
“Doesn’t it get tiring? The fame?” you asked, facing him.
“Yes, but it’s worth it. Living the dream, you know,” he said, then looked off into the distance. “I do miss the regular life, though. Coming to parties like this and just having a blast, not worrying about who’s talking to you. How have things been with you? Sam catching your heart?”
You giggled. “No, no not all. Actually just been focusing on career.”
You both were talking, and laughing, and having a great time. You both sat there in silence for a while. It was nice. Your hatred for him was fading the more you looked at his perfect jawbone and nose. In fact, your heart was beating faster and faster every second. He’d turned into everything you’d ever wanted.
“Do tattoos hurt?” you blurted out.
He laughed and shrugged. “Only in the moment. Don’t tell anyone this, but I always treat myself to ice cream after.” You couldn’t help laugh, and he looked up and you. You both held eye contact for a minute, and then you both rose up and inched towards each other.
Right before you reached him, you stopped, and so did he. “You’ve changed. You’ve changed for the better.”
“I’ve realized how much we all take for granted. The friendships, and friends,” he said, then grinned and looked at his feet. “Or in our case, the enemies.”
“I really don’t remember why we were so cold towards each other,” you said looking at his face.
“I do,” his smile disappeared. “I wasn’t the nicest to you. I’m sorry.”
You finally decided to close the gap, putting your arms around his neck and he put his hands on your waist. You stood up on your tiptoes and placed your lips gently on his. He opened his mouth, and you opened yours. He lifted his hand from your waist where your hands were, and locked his fingers with yours. He pulled you closer to him with his other hand, and started moving his lips faster. You moved him back into the chair, and you sat on top of him, straddling him.
