Here I lie, on the ground. I'm bleeding and in pain. Why? I just got hit by a truck and now I'm stuck here barely holding onto life. Do I care? Not really if I'm being honest. All I can hear is people freaking out and the sirens from the ambulance going off. The thing is, I walked in front of it on purpose.
I can't see anything right now but every once and a while my vision comes back. Internal bleeding maybe? I won't know for a while, especially if I die. My mom has no clue this has happen. I feel a bit bad. She's probably worried. Honestly, probably not. During Thanksgiving dinners (where I should be by now) she talks to everyone else more than me well also asking more about their lives. I wonder if anyone does care.
I think twenty-five minutes have passed and I'm possibly at the hospital finally. I hear a lot of voices and feet going back and forth. Am I in a coma? I can't open my eyes at all.
"I haven't decided yet." A deep voice says. "Wh-what do you mean? Who are you?" I ask.
"Oh yeah, totally forgot to introduce myself." He lets out a laugh. "Well it should be pretty obvious. I'm the Grim Reaper." He says.
At that moment my heart would have dropped like a brick but I don't see that happening right now. "Am I dead?" I ask feeling a bit brainless.
"Like I said, I haven't decided yet, so for now you're not alive and you're not quite dead, yet." He says. "How bad was the accident?" I ask.
"I'm not a doctor." He says, laughing after. "I know, but if you're here because I'm so badly hurt then you must know how bad it is." I say. "Well, I'm sent here by my boss so no, I don't know how bad it is." He explains.
"Oh.." I quietly mumble. "Ooh, there's a paper here that says, "Patient Violet Brooks has both of her ribs broken, broken leg, many visible and non-visible bruises all over her body and a broken nose." A little bit under that it says, "possibly brain injury." He says.
"I really did it this time! Now I might die! Or worse, not fully know what's going on and be in a comma!" I panic.
"It's not that bad. You have a 50/50 chance of making it out fine or you know." He drags his thumb across his throat and makes a gross noise.
"Was that supposed to make me feel better?" I ask, a bit pissed off.
"No, not really. I'm not here to make you feel happy or anything. I'm just here to either finish you off or to leave you be. Depending on what kind of person you were is how bad your chapter will end." He explains.
"Thanks." I say even more pissed off than I was before.
"No problem." He says back not caring at all.
We stay in dead silence for a good minute until he decides to talk.
"Oh, almost forgot. So if you die you'll be heading where everyone goes so I have to give you a tour of some sort because there's different sections depending on how you were when you were alive." He explains.
Before I can respond my whole body or whatever it is now, falls through the floors. I can see everyone as I fall down. There's kids, adults, and the elderly. It feels me with sadness. I notice there's more reapers than I thought. I only thought there was one.
"How many of you are there?" I ask. "Millions." He answers. "How do you get your job?" I ask.
"Well, when you die you just kind of get that job. Again, depending on how you were when you were alive. It's honestly a weird system." He explains but he seems a bit sad.
"Is it a hard job?" I ask. "It's hard for some and easy for others." He says. "But is it for you?" I ask again. "Not really." He says. "Sorry." I quietly say. "Don't be." He says.
All I see is dirt now as I fall. There's bones and rocks. Lot's of dirt. Lot's and lot's of dirt. "Almost there." He says.
I let out a sigh of relief. I'm so bored. Dirt is cool and all but it gets boring after twenty minutes or so. You know, thinking to myself now after everything that just happen, I actually do care if I die. Like crazy. "We're here." He says.
It's complicated to explain but there's bubble type areas. Where the gaps between the bubbles are there's cracks in the ground and dust. Known of those areas have not been touched for a long time. Some bubbles have lots of colourful flowers and others are dark with barely alive looking people.
There's thousands of reapers coming from the cloudy skies. They all look like angels but when you actually see their face, they don't look so angelic anymore. Some of them are small and others are gigantic. I look over and notice he's very different looking compared to the others. He looks more human in a way. I look back at the land. There's hundreds of crows that I missed somehow.
The crows sit on a huge reaper's shoulder. He looks like a giant mountain. It's in a weird way, beautiful to see. He leaves the crows on him like they aren't even there. The giant reaper has a scythe so big and sharp it looks, like if it touched to gloomy, dark sky it'd tear a hole through it. There's another reaper that catches my eye, she's small and beautiful.
Her face has designs carved into her bones. She has long black, curly hair that when you stare more turns white after a bit, like she's aging somehow. Where her eyes should be it's dark and empty. She's beautiful even though she's dead. There's hundreds or even thousands of crows sitting on the giant reaper's scythe that fly off and fly our way.
I slowly float down to an empty bubble. There's nothing. It's just white. You can't see the outside once you are inside. Honestly you can't see anything from how bright it is so you're blinded. "Where are we?" I ask. It's silent for a bit. "We're just passing through so it doesn't matter." He says. I hear a crow. After a couple seconds I hear more and they seem to be pecking at the bubble trying to get in. They scream outside of the bubble still pecking but now also scratching at the bubble. "What's happening?" I say, panicking. "The crows want your soul. Since you aren't dead or alive your soul right now is more valuable to them in a way." He says.
"What will happen if they get in?" I ask, feeling like I know the answer. "They'll eat you in the worst possible way they can. Since you have sinned so much they really want you and can't control how they act." He says, no emotion at all. I feel fear filling up inside me like water pouring into a cup but the cup is overflowing. He walks over to me and helps me up.
