Jake’s P.O.V.
There she was. After three years, she was back. And damn she was gorgeous. Long curly chocolate hair that tumbled down her back and those emerald green eyes… But for some reason I just couldn’t feel anything towards her. She was absolute perfection, but the teenage boy inside me wasn’t jumping out and saying mine! It was weird, but I think it was to do with how similar we looked. Even though I had blonde hair and she had brown, we had the same shaped face and the same green eyes. It was like we were long lost cousins or something.
I watched as she looked around, her face terrified and lost. She seemed so alone. I wondered how she was going. Our teachers had told us it was a heart-attack and that she was in a stable condition at the hospital, but there was a rumour that she was in a coma.
I saw Evelyn start talking to her, insulting her, probably. I smiled to myself and shook my head. Elle was a piece of work. A nice piece of work I must admit, but she could be extremely difficult.
We’d had our fair shares of fights, but in the end, we had always come through. We’d been together for what seemed like eternity, and something lasting that long wasn’t about to break off anytime soon. I just went along with the flow.
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard someone’s voice rise. Olivia stood inches away from Evelyn, pointing a menacing finger at her. I watched as Olivia told her off and shouted something about not having a boyfriend and her coma. So it was true.
She stormed down the hall, face bright red, until someone called her name.
‘Olivia?’ Regan stood in the middle of the hall, all eyes trained on the two of them.
Olivia said something and Regan rushed in and hugged her, embracing her in a tight hug. It had been years since they had seen each other and even I had to admit the reunion was going to be sweet.
They were the kind of best friends that stayed together at all times and were so closely knit they could finish each other’s sentences off, so you can imagine how surprised everyone was when Olivia pulled away and apologized looking a little flustered and scampered away down the hall.
‘What was that about?’ I asked Evelyn as she came over looking grumpy.
‘Nothing much, babe. Nerd-girl lost her memory or something.’ She said, waving her hand.
‘Wait-what? She lost her memory?’ I asked, surprised.
‘Something like that. Not that anyone would ever care. It doesn’t matter.’ She added haughtily. She leaned in to me, resting her hands on my chest.
‘It doesn’t matter?!’ I said to her, pulling away. God, Evelyn could be doggy, but this was too far. ‘Jeeze Evelyn, grow a heart.’ I said, pushing past her and following Olivia.
Evelyn gave me a hurt face and turned to her friends.
‘Fine, go after the loser. See if I care.’ She snapped back angrily.
She obviously did care, but I wasn’t about to tell her that. I turned the corner and saw Olivia walking quickly to the end of the corridor that led to the cafeteria.
‘Hey, wait up.’ I said, jogging to catch up with her.
She glanced backwards and saw me coming. Her eyes widened and she quickened her pace, wrapping her arms around her waist.
‘You can’t go in there yet.’ I said to her as she stood at the locked door, tapping her foot and silently fuming.
‘What do you want?’ She said flatly.
