9:
"So what you're saying is that this guy might be a vampire."
Seth asked without a hint of sarcasm.
Emily was relieved when he didn't laugh at her.
Seth was turning out to be a good friend.
"I'm not saying that exactly.
I mean everybody knows that vampires doesn't exist .
Well other than your landlady".
Emily amended.
"Let's say for instance that vampires do exist.
What would be the best way to prove it?"
Seth asked .
Emily considered his question although
somewhere in the back of her mind she couldn't
believe that they were having this discussion.
"I guess we'd have to throw some holy water
on him or shove a Crucifix into his face.
And if that doesn't work
then we'll know that he's human".
Seth nodded.
"Exactly."
"But it's not like we're going to try doing those things."
Emily seemed to be trying to convince herself that doing those things would be a bad idea.
Seth couldn't care less one way or the other just as long as he got to spend time with Emily.
If she wanted to fling Holy water on D. Chatham then he'd gladly
hold the chalice while she did so.
"We'd better go inside before someone claims our favorite booth."
Emily said after a minute or two had passed.
Derek's pov
Derek parked the Harley in the shadowy alley between the restaurant
and a bookstore before transforming into the bat...
This form would be better suited for his purpose tonight.
The bat was hanging upside down from a low branch above Emily's car
listening to every word she and the young hardware clerk were saying.
The bat flapped away after the two humans entered the restaurant.
Ten minutes later Derek morphed into human form near the Harley.
His mind was made up about the girl.
She would be coming with him tonight and if the boy stood in the way
then too bad for him.
Once reaching this decision Derek felt a
weight lifting from his shoulders.
It had been one hundred years since he had even thought about creating
another female companion.
The first one had been a sweet, brown haired servant girl belonging to an English Lord.
Derek changed her while he was hardly more than a fledgling himself which
is why he blamed his own inexperience for the tragedy which followed.
