Adrien woke up with a hangover. His entire body felt limp and heavy, like his blood had been replaced by lead, and his head throbbed painfully. Every sound, every sight burned through his senses, worsening the pain he felt.
But even that wasn't enough to make him forget.
Her forehead had been scrunched up, her bluebell eyes blazing while she told him that she didn't love him. That she was with someone better. And he hated that she was right.
"Adrikins," came Chloe's shrill voice, "are you okay in there?" He groaned and pulled the pillow over his head. "Good! Daddy's personally inviting you to breakfast with us on our private floor. We'll be eating in fifteen minutes, so get your lazy butt out of bed."
Plagg snored softly beside his feet. His small belly was bloated from the wheel of Camembert Adrien had given him the night before and his green eyes were shut tightly. It seemed a shame to wake him, especially when Adrien didn't exactly feel like talking.
He stood up from the bed and tried to make himself presentable. His luscious blonde hair was shaggy and his green eyes dull. The dark rings beneath his eyes would need make-up to hide, and as much as he resented the effort, it was better than hearing Chloe ask questions he wasn't going to answer.
Within ten minutes he was ready, showered and dressed in a casual blue sweater and faded pair of jeans. He left everything in his room the way it was, two empty bottles of red wine on his night stand and his blankets carelessly thrown on the floor.
He stepped out into the hall and was surprised when he found Sabrina standing in front of him. She beamed. "Good morning, Adrien. I've been sent to escort you to breakfast."
Adrien tried to shake his head, wincing at the stab of pain shooting through him. "That's not necessary, Sabrina. I can -,"
"Chloe insisted." He knew then it would be pointless arguing.
Sabrina was like a mix between a servant and a sibling to Chloe. Half the time she spent the day in Chloe's shadow, following her and answering to her every beck and call. He hadn't thought it very humane, but he'd been glad that Chloe had someone she could rely on. And by the looks of it, things hadn't changed.
The sense of familiarity brought some comfort to him.
They took the elevator to the sixth floor and Sabrina led him to what he considered the dining hall. It was similar to the one in his old home, large enough to fit a table with enough seats for ten people. Yellow and red designs decorated the walls with framed portraits of the Bourgeois family dressed in lavish, expensive clothes.
Chloe was already there, dressed in her favorite yellow jacket. She beamed up at him, her blue eyes sparkling at him the way he wished Ladybug's would.
He took a seat beside her and the Mayor looked up from his newspaper. He smiled at Adrien and folded the newspaper beside his plate. "Hello Adrien, it's nice to see you back in Paris. It's certainly been a while, hasn't it?"
"It's nice to be back." he replied.
"Is Paris treating you kindly since you last left? Everything must be so different from England. A dreary place if you ask me."
Adrien shrugged. "I hadn't really paid much attention." Most of his time had been spent driving to various photo-shoots and helping his father with some of his designs. Since the reveal, Adrien had actually chosen to stay caged up inside the house. If it was going to help his father be himself again, Adrien didn't have the heart to leave.
"Oh Daddy, stop talking about all that ridiculous nonsense." Chloe sneered at her father. "Adrien, you won't believe how miserable life's been without you here. It's criminal."
