True loves Escape

A sigh escaped her lips, as she looked off the shaded cliff to the glistening lake below. She let her feet dangle, moving back and forth. The water below was calm, swaying only slightly towards the current of the bustling streams. Following the path that it was predestined for. Maybe it wasn't the path the water wanted to take, but it really didn't have a choice did it. There really is never a choice in life, is there?

Birds began to chirp in the tree near the lake. A tree so close to the cliff, she could reach out and touch it. Maybe she would fall through, plummeting down the cliff, but she wasn't sure if that would be a bad thing. Her eyes went back to the birds. The eggs were laying in a small nest, new life would emerge from it shortly. Her hand then reached to her belly, resting on the soon to be growing flesh. She watched in awe, as two birds flew to the nest, cooing at one another and then at the unhatched babies. A life she knew she would begin shortly but wasn't sure if that's what she wanted.

A splash echoed from the lake, and her eyes snapped to it. On the fair side she could see a figure standing looking out towards the lake. At what she did not know? But what was she looking at? Was she the water rushing towards that stream, being sucked up into the current or was she that giant splash, doing her own thing. She regretted the answer to that question, as his words from earlier this month echoed in her head. "I have to do the right thing here."

The lake. The lake was grey, a musty grey. Maybe it was the algae showing through or the ridged rocks at the bottom. He did not know, but it was somber. Somber like the birds that honked as they flew above head. Somber like the girl that sat on the cliff above the lake watching, watching him. His eyes graced over to the water, and the bubbles that emerged from the center. There was only a slight splash and bubbles. Each one a desperate cry for help. He wondered if the fish were crying, sobbing to be saved.

Saved. He was saving her.

His bare feet could feel the large rocks scrape up the bottoms of them, tearing slightly into his flesh. He may have started to bleed, leaving himself on the beach of the lake he used to love so much. The same beach he had first laid eyes on her. Two hawks flew above head screeching, before landing on the top of the tree near the cliff only inches from the girl. Then his eyes moved back to the bubbles. Popping over and over again. When the last bubble popped he sighed, a large grin crossing his face.

She was now saved. He had saved her.

"Timothy, I'm back!" She yelled, after unlatching the lock to her apartment. He was there when she left earlier and assumed he'd be there when she got back. Since they found out she was pregnant, and he asked about her news, he had basically moved in. She sighed while throwing her fake leather bag onto the tattered couch, before trudging into the kitchen.

Besides the yellowing fridge, sat a note on the counter. The paper was coffee stained and frayed around the edges. It read, "Went out to meet Adam, will be back by 5." Adam? Why would he be willingly meeting him? She had heard of Adam, Timothy's brother, but never had the pleasure of meeting him. From what she heard in town she was lucky, she hadn't met him yet. Maybe she saw him around town, though, it was a small town. He apparently had a mental breakdown years before she moved to the town, that's why Timothy stopped speaking to him. She turned her attention back to the note, "Make steak and potatoes for dinner, enough for 5." Enough for five? Who could possibly come that there is a need for a serving of five? Does she even have enough food in her kitchen to feed that many people; she's only living on waitress salary at the small run-down dinner in town. She's lucky if she has enough money to feed herself most days.
