It was a cold bright morning and Jane was leaning against her street door, she didn't want to wake Cole up when she was making her phone calls. She dialed the number that she remembered from a year back when she used it way more often than she does now.

"Jack Matthews," A man said into the phone.

"Hello Mr. Matthews this is Jane Moore I don't know if you remember me," She said into the phone and she could almost hear him smile at the other end of the line.

"Of course I remember you sweetheart" he chuckled, she switched the phone to her other ear.

"How are you doing Jane?" He continued and she smiled.

"Well I've been in University for a year now and I am studying art history but I don't really know what I am going to use it for" She explained and Mr. Matthews just sighed at the other line.

"You'll use it for something great I know you will... And I also know that you didn't call me for small talk did you?" He asked almost forcing information out of Jane.

"Yes, I was wondering if you could send me Troy's new cell phone number to this number... if you don't think he'll mind I have something I need to talk to him about" Jane asked him and not trying to demand him.

"Is it about Eli...I know ya'll don't talk about it but is it?" He asked and Jane closed her eyes for a second, she had almost forgotten about that or atlas moved on from that.

"No it is not about Eli and yes we don't talk about it" She said and she knew that she sounded irritated but she knew that Mr. Matthew would understand her tone.

"I'll send you the number to him.. Take care of yourself would you" He demanded and she chuckled.

"I'll say the same to you Sir"

"Wait Jane... Eli" He hurried before he could hang up

"What about Eli" She said

"Nothing just take care" And he hung up

Even though she had hung up she still stood there on the sidewalk by her street door waiting for the text from Mr. Matthews. People walking past her looked at her pajama bottoms and her knitted grey sweater that was hanging over her shoulders showing off her bra straps that people clearly did not like. She reached the text message from Mr. Matthews. She dialed the number from the text message but before she could press the call button she lit a cigarette and took a long drag. It was a bad habit she had picked up from Troy the guy she was about to call for a favor. She called even though it was pretty early and she knew how much he hated mornings at least she knew he did a few years ago.

"Troy" he simply answered the phone and Jane could hear that she had woken him up but calling him.

"Oh... I am sorry did I wake you?" She asked it her lip and then took a drag from her cigarette.

"Yes In a matter of fact you did... And who is this?" He asked and Jane could hear how the sheets were rustling on the other line and that a woman muttered something to him.

"I am sorry this is Jane" She said and he didn't say anything to her she could just hear him faintly tell the woman who was probably in his bed that he was going out for a smoke.

"Excuse me a second," He said and Jane waited and then she heard a door slam on the other side. He was probably out the door.

"Why are you calling me?" He asked and his voice was worried in some kind of way but still may be a bit irritated.

"Is it about Eli?" he asked just as his father had done moments before.

"No... Do you remember that you told me when you left for University to call you even though we weren't together if I even needed a favor or help with something?" She asked and he mumbled a yes. He was clearly starting to get worried because he knew that Jane wouldn't have called if it wasn't a real thing because he knew that she wouldn't have called him before really thinking about it.
