CHAPTER TWO
NOAH

Guys in heavy equipment skated around the ice, their stick smacking against the pucks as the passed them back and forth.

A middle-aged man who was is surprisingly good shape directed them with harsh yells.

Todd was on the ice, his jersey number the same as the one for soccer, his curly hair hidden by his helmet.

The door to the arena opened and I craned my neck.

The entire group was already here, sans one person.

He walked in, his brown hair was hidden under a beanie, his ears and cheeks already tinted with pink but he still smiled down at me, his dimples creasing. I couldn't help but smile back.

He navigated down the bleachers and hopped over one to join the group. "Hey," he said. White clouds followed his words and he rubbed his hands together.

Without a second thought, I handed Parker my gloves.

He shook his head. "I'm good, thanks."

"Take them," I said. "I think they're yours anyways."

"I gave them to you last Christmas," he corrected, taking them, "my mom knitted them for you."

"Close enough."

I leaned back in my seat.

Isla had gone with Bea and Beth to grab food from the concessions stand before the game started and they returned then.

"Leprechaun!" she exclaimed, handing him a bag of popcorn.

A few people turned our direction, confused.

Parker's cheeks reddened.

Isla and I laughed.

"The game's starting," he said.

Isla returned to her seat next to Will as we watched the game start.

;

Though it was barely fall, the night eventually fell after Todd won his game.

The group had tried to stay outside talking but when Bea declared she was cold as she was wearing nothing under her windbreaker, Beth and the Davises had to leave with her. Then Todd when he told us he was tired from playing his long game that had gone into overtime. Isla and Will left soon after not bothering with an excuse as they just wanted to go home.

Parker and I turned to each other, alone in the dark and empty parking lot.

"Can I get a ride?" I asked.

He nodded and we began walking in the direction of his car. "What happened to your car?"

"In the shop, I had to bus here."

Parker snorted as he unlocked his car. "Of course that junker is back in the shop."

"Hey!" I exclaimed. "Do not talk about Linda like that."

Even though we both know my car is a junker. My dad had wanted to live vicariously through me and get me a Ferrari since we had the money, but anxiety had caused me to get a cheap used car because I was afraid of crashing it.

In hindsight, I should have gotten the Ferrari. I spent so much on car repairs that it probably added up to the cost of two Ferraris.

He rolled his eyes and we both got into the car.
