In the deserts of New Mexico, a military base, operated by S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic, Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and, Logistics Division), there was a massive panic as agents, scientists, and soldiers fled the building in trucks and jeeps. A helicopter landed on a landing pad.

A woman with short brown hair, but long enough to be in a ponytail, fair skin, and brown eyes in a blue and silver bodysuit with S.H.I.E.L.D tags on it came out. She had a gun holster on her thigh. Maria Hill is the second in command at S.H.I.E.L.D, keeping the systems of their main base operational.

A man stepped out of the chopper too. He's dark skinned and taller than Hill. He has one brown eye, the left one is covered by a black eye patch, which looks like it was cut by a three clawed animal. He's wearing a black shirt, pants, trench coat and boots, he too has a gun.

Nicholas 'Nick' Fury is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D and a super spy. He and Hill walked through the crowd of people fleeing the facility. A man with short brown hair, wearing a black suit with the same id's as Hill, met them.

"How bad is it?" Fury asked in a husky man's voice.

"That's the problem, sir." the man, Phil Coulson, a high ranking agent, said in a smooth, younger sounding voice. "We don't know. We started getting escalating readings from the Tesseract four hours ago. Dr. Selvig's down there right now, and no unauthorized person has come or gone."

"How fast will the place be clear?" Fury asked.

"The upper floors should be clear within the next twenty minutes." Coulson answered.

"Do better." Fury ordered.

He and Hill went into the building. Coulson went to oversee clear out. The two leading agents went down into a basement section of the building.

"Sir, evacuation may be futile." Hill said in a crisp voice.

"We should tell them to go back to sleep?" Fury asked.

"If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimal safe distance." Hill pointed out.

"I need you to make sure the 'Phase 2' prototypes are shipped out." Fury instructed.

"Sir, is that really a priority right now?" Hill protested.

"Until the world ends, we'll do what we have too." Fury cut her off."Clear out the tech below. I want every piece of 'Phase 2' on a truck and gone."

"Yes, sir." Hill said reluctantly, walking past Fury and signaling two armed soldiers. "With me."

Fury walked into a semi circular room with a domed ceiling. Some electronic instruments were in the far side of the room along with several scientists and computers. In the middle of the room, on a slightly higher platform, was a circular device holding a glowing cube of some sorts. In front of it was a man with white hair, dressed in plain civilian clothes. He was an older man with fair wrinkled skin and blue eyes.

"Talk to me, Doctor." Fury addressed the man.

"Director." he said in a husky older voice.

He came over to fall in step beside Fury.

"Is there anything we know for certain?" Fury questioned.

"The Tesseract is misbehaving." the man, a civilian physicist named Erik Selvig, answered.

"That supposed to be funny?" Fury said confused.

"No it's not funny." Selvig answered, as another doctor was trying to get a reading with a different device. "Not only is the Tesseract active, she's behaving. If she reaches peak level..."
