When she was 14, she stayed at Paris, France. She was chosen by Jefferson's sister-in-law to accompany his daughter Maria to Paris, France, as a domestic servant and maid in Jefferson. At ten weeks, she was transported from the plantations of Virginia to Jefferson called "the vaunted scene of Europe"
