It had been exactly one week, luckily, the bullet didn't go in deep. Currently, Cassie was knocked up on painkillers with her current place of residence being the cozy one-bed apartment of Luke Evans. By this point, the miraculous story of her return had cooled down. Her face was still plastered over News channels and swarms of journalists were still huddled outside the complex, practically foaming at the mouth, hungry for the juicy details. It was hell every time Luke wanted to leave his own apartment, constantly fighting the bright flashes of cameras and the microphones being pushed intrusively into his face at every second."Don't worry about it," He had said, shrugging his coat over his shoulders. "I'll only be gone for an hour. If you get scared, call me, alright?" He smiled, gesturing to the recently given gift. It was a cell phone, a cell phone she'd barely touched apart from to call her brother. It was so strange, the whole new world was. It had only been ten years since 1997, but so many things had changed since then. It was the beginning of the Digital Age, with laptops, phones and everything in between. Cassie didn't seem to like it as much as the other millennials.
She was terrified about being left alone, but wouldn't tell that to Luke, She couldn't hold him back from his life he'd been living fine without her. He was twenty-seven, he was due to settle down. The truth could not be told anyway - the cause of her panic came from a place in her subconscious. A place which manipulated her vision, that convinced her mind that he was there. Uncle Ross. He didn't just appear in her nightmares.
"Look at you.." He mused from the armchair, raising the hairs on her neck. "So pathetic. I'm dead, Bitch! Look at me, I'm not here!" But his voice was so very real, he was there. There's no way he couldn't be. Cassie wasn't crazy - she wasn't.
"Go away." She mumbled, so quiet she wasn't even sure if the words came out. It wouldn't surprise her if they didn't - her head was so jumbled to the point where she couldn't think of her own name.
"This is your fault, you know. All of it. It's your fault I'm dead, it's your fault those cops are dead and it's all your fault your parents weren't in that hospital room when you woke up,"
"Stop it," She warned, her tone weak and hesitant.
"Oh, don't those words sound familiar," he smirked.
They did. Of course they did. Two simple words that would haunt her to her grave. "Don't they, Angelface?"
She didn't respond. She felt pathetic, just like Ross said. She was really going mad, getting put down by fragments of her own imagination.
Ross was dead, albeit here he was, tormenting her. He, was going to make sure she suffered until the very end. The sad part was that Cassie was doing it to herself, all by herself.
"I bet you're wondering where your parents are. He hasn't told you yet, has he? He's always been a feeble little worm. You know, I considered snatching little Luke away plenty of times. But I knew he was too spineless for my plans - he had no get up and go, no drive. I was hopeless until you came along, because I knew that you were a little fighter. That you would fight me back and I'd have the pleasure of watching you realise there was no escape, over and over again until you desired to fight no longer," His face held a sinister grin that was all too familiar to her. Cassie almost puked at the formidable man's words.
Hearing him like this really made her thankful for her (not really) knight in shining armour. It made her miss his painting face and haunting figure. His dark eyes and cruel stares really made an impact on the pitiful girl.
"Oh, you're not thinking about him, are you? The very bastard that shot me in the head and uprooted my heart out of my chest?" He proceeded to rip open his shirt, to reveal scattered open wounds to where all his organs used to be. Another reminder that he was in fact dead.
