XIII. Confrontation & Strategies
BUFFY WAS WAITING FOR CALEB WHEN HE emerged from the bathroom. He took a shower after training with Robin and Giles today while she stuck around and kept watch on Faith and Reid while the two recuperated. They took the Sons to the Academy to train with the other newbie recruits; they needed to be armed with at least simple hand-to-hand combat and weapons' handling in case of another attack. Buffy's been itching to talk to Caleb ever since she had her talk with Faith and found out who their Big Bad was.
"We got to talk," Buffy said as soon as the young witch stepped out of the washroom.
Caleb jumped when he heard Buffy spoke. He didn't think anyone would be loitering the upstairs hallway considering everyone was busy downstairs when he got back from the Academy with Robin and Giles.
"Jesus, you people have a thing for delivering heart attacks to poor unsuspecting souls?" Caleb hissed once his heartbeat went back down to normal.
"Is your soul really poor and unsuspecting?"
Caleb made a face at the blonde. He removed the towel he had draped around his neck and used it to dry his hair. Buffy realized for the first time that he was naked from the waist up. Her eyes were drawn to the nicely built torso oozing with what looked like a promising six-pack if he worked hard on getting them. He wasn't bad to look at; he was already an eye-candy face-wise, but now that she has seen him sans his top...well, it took all her years of Slayer training to keep herself from letting out a wolfish whistle as she studied him carefully.
Okay stupid hormones, calm down and ignore. He's practically Dawnie's age! He could be your younger brother so don't ogle the witch. Stay focused on the task at hand and get on with it, Buffy mentally scolded herself.
"What do you want, Buffy?" Caleb asked.
Buffy looked up and met his gaze then. "I told you, we gotta talk."
"Talk about what?"
"About what you're not telling me and why you're not sharing."
"What are you talking about?" He looked baffled.
Buffy cocked an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her midriff. "You're not fooling me, Caleb Danvers. Faith already fessed-up and told me what you two talked about in her room when you snuck in, now I want to know what is it that she told you about who attacked her and Reid," she demanded.
Caleb was quickly put on the defence. He couldn't blame Faith for telling since she and Buffy had more history together than him and her. But he thought she'd wait at least a full twenty-four hours has passed before she tattled on him.
"Like what I told Faith, the guys and I can handle it."
"Not anymore," Buffy countered.
"This is not your fight, Buffy," he argued.
"Up until Faith and I were attacked by whoever is after you, yeah, it ain't my fight, but whoever this Big Bad is made it my fight when he included me and my friends and family in it," she glared at the stubborn dark haired witch. "Either you tell me what kind of nasty we're dealing with here or I'll make sure you and your friends don't get out of this place without being trailed," she threatened.
