Three words and my name changed everything. I guess that's all it takes. Well that and some provocking. Let's just say I haven't been the good daughter I should have been. In well ever. I try. I mean maybe a little?
"Jessamine Estelle Benton, come down here this instant and don't you even think about climbing out that window again! We need to have a talk with you."
And with that I knew I was offically screwed. My mother never and I repeat never uses my full name unless something is seriously wrong.
"Coming down in a second mom, just need to turn this off!"
Quickly pulling my iPod out and closing my door behind me I rushed down the steps basically to my ultimate doom. My mother's wrath. You see I don't have the normal cozy house wife of a mother.
No, I get the control freak math genius Erika Benton instead. And then there's dad. Who's actually a really sweet guy but sometimes when he's in the lab forgets what his name is and the year. Oh and also he just happens to be the person who invented solar paneled phones.
Yeah let's just say I come from a very mathy and logical family. And then there's me. Just Jessa, no Nobel Prize to come and a B+ in science. Basically the 'disappointment' and in other words the artist and the unrealistic one of the family.
"Jessa, please sit down. Your father and I have discussed and think that this is for the best."
"Urm, okay then..What do you mean by that exactly?"
"Well you see we have decided that you need to drop your afternoon drawing class and take something more...practical instead. Something that you can use later on in life and make a career of. Like Calculus."
"But I love art." I managed to whisper.
"Well I love you sweetie and we know this will be the best in the long run. Don't worry we took care of it all for you. Just wanted to tell you to not bother going there again! That's all. You can go upstairs now.." And she got up brushing her hands on her jeans as if to wipe away the dirt and disapointment of having me.
That's why I didn't fight it. Because no matter how much I love art, I love my family just as much and have always just wanted to make them proud.
I bite my lip and plug in my headphones, scrolling through my songs, trying to not think of my life without art. This is it. My last peice. It was my everything. It was me.
It showed a girl standing alone in feild filled with stars that outshone her, leaving her the darkest spot in a perfect place. A shattered peice of glass in the world. Her back was turned and her hair was flying as she looked back over her shoulder for one last goodbye. Its funny how a goodbye could turn into a hello so quickly.
The hours dragged on and my eyes slowly started to droop. A single tear slipped out and I decided it was time to go put all my stuff away. This is it. I'm done. Hah, who knew the 'rebel' of the family would give up so quickly. I cleaned and washed my brushes and palette.
I looked all around my room taking in all the details and the smells. I feel like after today something will change, I'm not sure what, but something will. Finally having everything in order I sink into my bed not bothering to even pull the covers back. Almost instantly I fall into a deep and dreamless sleep..
