I still remember.

The accident.
I remember it was two weeks after I got out of school for the summer. I Remember it, but not as clearly as I'd like. On second thought, I think I'd rather forget. Listening to my sister laugh, telling me about the time she threw up on her crush after a not so pleasant roller coaster ride. Her nose crinkling, giggling at the memory. "Ew! What did he do?", I questioned. "Well, he looked like he was ready to cry for a second, and then he hurled all over the ground.", she chuckled. "He was really grossed out, but he was also very compassionate about it. Tom's a very cool guy", she smiled at me. "He sounds it.. Oh! Tom! I know him! The one that worked at that pizza place in the plaza!", I recalled. "That's right. I'm still close friends with him. He's a keeper. In a friend way.", she informed me. We sat in peaceful silence for a moment. "Pretty soon you'll be twenty-one won't you? Any big plans?", I asked suggestively. "Yeah, totally. I'll get blasted. Totally wasted. Party hard", she said laughing.
Thinking back on it, she seemed to be radiating life, taking into consideration the events that followed.

The bright sun shimmered down on us through the sunroof.

We had always been close. Really close.

The sky was a deep rich blue, and the clouds were white, at the time. But as she drove the sky grew dark. Clouds grew to a menacing ashy gray.

Out of nowhere it began to pour.
It was really unusual, it had been so nice a second ago.

My sister's demeanor seemed to shift at the weather. She pursed her lips, frowning slightly. "This isn't good. Something is wrong.", if only she knew.

"Let's head home," she declared suddenly. I nodded.
Thunder rumbled and the frightening sky was illuminated by lightening. Thunder clapped, my sister jumping in fright. The ground reverberated with the strength of it. My hands covered my ears. It was pouring to the point where we could barely see through the windshield.
"Shit. This is no good", my sister growled. "It'll be alright, don't worry.", I tried to soothe her. She swallowed and forced a small smile. "You're right. It will be."
She knew.

As we continued down the highway, things got worse.
"I can't drive like this! We'll be asking for it.", she slowly pulled off to the side of the road. She put it in park. And we sat.

"Um...", I started.

"We'll get back on the road when it's safe again.", she said staring straight ahead, obviously not herself.
"I told you, there's nothing to be worried about-"
We were interrupted with a huge BOOM!
We both tensed up and after a few seconds of silence, and the sound of rain pattering against the car, she spoke.
"I know, I'm just getting a really bad omen," she murmured frowning.

A loud crack made both of us shriek. And we turned to see a tree come crashing down.

My sister turned back, when I saw it.
Something coming right toward us. I didn't have time to react. The glass shattered, the car crumpled like construction paper, it flew like a saucer, into the woods. My hands were everywhere, trying to get a steady grip. But how could I, we were moving so fast. There was no way to protect ourselves from what was happening, not now. Not even then, we'd already done what we could. We couldn't even "let" it happen. We were thrown around like puppets, dolls, we couldn't do anything. No way to stop, no way to react, no emotions to feel. We were pawns.

A car hit us, killing my sister. Nearly killing me.

I remember waking up, my head felt like it was being crushed. My sister was still turned towards me, her eyes wide open, her mouth agape. Hair was strewn across her face. Her face was covered in cuts, and she was covered in blood.
I struggled for what felt like forever to get the seatbelt undone. Finally it came loose and I tossed the door open. There was blood all over me, belonging to both me and my sister. The car was mangled. I sleepily looked around. Surrounded by brush and trees. I looked up and saw the sky was lighter. The Thunder was soft, the Lightning gone. The storm was passing. It was still raining quite hard. I heard rustling and voices.
I couldn't tell what they were saying, I only knew they were getting closer. My vision started to blur, my head began to pulse with a such intensity. Everything became blurry, until it was dark. I felt my body slump to the wet ground and then, nothing.

I was later told I hadn't even made it five steps from the car.
