ANGST WITH A HAPPY ENDING
She hadn't even felt the spear coming. Erza prided herself on her ability to sense changes in airflow and hear the sounds around her, even amidst a battle. So what was different now? Maybe it was the sheer number of enemies they had to face or maybe it was the fact that she was worried for Wendy, whom she had seen take a heavy blow. It didn't matter now.
What mattered was the blonde that'd thrown herself in the path of the weapon.
Erza had turned her head at the sound of metal ripping through flesh behind her, just in time to see Lucy lock eyes with her then stumble to the ground, laying on her side.
Swords flew everywhere. Hundreds of weapons were flung toward each enemy, accompanied by an ear-shattering scream of fury. Then, it stopped. Not one was left standing.
Among the dust, was Erza on her knees, holding Lucy. The night had severed off both the long ends of the spear so that it wouldn't jostle as much. Natsu and Gray were frantically looking for Wendy. The spear had gone right through Lucy's stomach area and she was losing blood quickly.
Erza couldn't breathe properly. Lucy had shut her eyes and wouldn't respond. It didn't matter though. Erza spoke as if she was wide awake. Her words were gasped out and airy while her entire body shook. She had both hands on the wound, pressing down on the white shirt that was becoming red.
"Lucy! Lu-Lucy you have to stay with me, okay? Stay awake. Wendy's going to be here soon so stay awake. You're gonna be okay. You're gonna be okay." Erza had her eyes shut tightly but the tears still leaked out and fell down her cheeks.
Until she felt a soft hand brush them away. Erza gasped and her eyes shot open to look into Lucy's. "Lucy!"
Overall, the celestial made's expression didn't seem too pained. She seemed calm even. As if she didn't know what was going on.
"E-Erza? What's wrong?" questioned Lucy. Erza eyebrows furrowed. "What do you mean?" Lucy was talking. That was a good thing, right? That meant it couldn't be too bad.
"You're crying." Lucy stated. Erza was so confused. Of course she was crying! The love of her life was bleeding out in front of her. "You're hurt, Lucy." she answered. Lucy nodded. "I know." she said. "But you shouldn't cry. I don't like it when you cry." Lucy stopped as a coughing fit wracked her body. Blood came out of her mouth and dribbled down the side of her chin.
Erza raised her head. "NATSU! GRAY! HURRY!" she yelled, frantic. She felt a soft hand at her cheek again. She turned her head back to Lucy and took the hand, holding it tightly. Tears still fell down her cheeks.
"C'mon, Erza. Smile for me. I love your smile." whispered Lucy. Erza shook her head. She knew why Lucy was asking. "No, no, Wendy is coming. You can wait to see my smile when you're better, okay? You can, right?"
"I want to see you smile, Erza. Please. I'm so tired." said Lucy, growing quieter. Her eyes began to flutter. Erza panicked. "No! No, Lucy, stay awake. You have to stay awake!" she yelled. Lucy looked up at her through half-lidded eyes and tugged at the hand that Erza still held. She smiled and Erza's heart clenched in fear. Regardless, she moved down closer to Lucy, who raised her other hand to cup Erza's cheek and bring her the rest of the way in.
Erza pressed her lips gently against Lucy's for a couple seconds, feeling the anxiety in her lessen just slightly at the contact. She slowly pulled her head back and Lucy smiled wider at her.
"There it is." whispered Lucy. The corners of Erza mouth were upturned in a natural way. She was smiling.
The smile dropped as Lucy shut her eyes.
"Lucy?"
"Lucy, wake up!"
"This isn't funny! Lucy, please! Please, I'll smile again, just please open your eyes!"
"LUCY!"
Erza shot up from her bed. 'No!' she thought as she turned her head to look at the bed beside her.
She sighed in relief. There was Lucy, although unconscious and very beat up but, alive. Erza hopped off her own cot and padded over to sit in the chair beside Lucy. It'd been two days since the battle. Wendy had shown up just after Lucy lost consciousness and healed up her wound as best as she could. She managed to stop the bleeding and then they all ran to the nearest town to get a blood transfusion for Lucy with Erza carrying her and Gray carrying an exhausted Wendy.
Lucy was rushed to emergency and after two hours of pacing the waiting room, a doctor came to tell them that she'd be fine. Although, she had lost a lot of blood and would need to be kept there for another few days before they could transfer her to Magnolia.
Natsu, Gray and Wendy went to stay in a hotel but Erza refused to leave her girlfriend's side. After threatening a security guard that tried to get her to leave with ten swords, the doctors just moved another cot into the room and let her stay. Even with the suspiciously comfortable bed she had, Erza didn't get much sleep for in every nightmare she had, she would see Lucy dead.
Lucy still hadn't woken up and it worried Erza. Even though the doctors said she was fine, Erza wouldn't be okay until Lucy said she was.
Erza got up and walked over to the chair beside Lucy's bed. She took her beloved's hand and waited, just as she had been doing every day since they got back. Eventually, her eyes began to droop as her exhaustion set in. Erza closed her eyes
"Erza?" The knight slowly blinked open her eyes. Squinting at the light, she focused on Lucy who was looking down on her. Reality finally set in and Erza shot up from her half-laying on top of the blonde.
"Lucy! You're awake!" Erza beamed, feeling more at ease than she remembered ever feeling before.
"Yeah. Hey. How long've I been out?" asked Lucy as she looked around the room. Her gaze fell on the cot beside hers and panic filled her. "Is everyone else okay?"
Erza recognized the fearful look in her girlfriend's eyes and smiled gently. "No, no, that's my bed." Lucy shot her a confused and worried look. ERza at least had the decency to look sheepish. "I may have refused to leave you alone."
Lucy sighed and fell back into the bed, albeit slowly. "Did you threaten a security officer again?" Erza grinned and Lucy groaned. "You're awful."
Erza's smile dropped and she took Lucy's hand. "You almost died." whispered Erza. Silence carried through the room and Lucy frowned. She let herself think about what she would say because she knew she had to be careful.
Finally, she tugged on Erza's hand, guiding her into her own arms. She hugged her tightly and squeezed her eyes shut. "I'd do it all again." Erza tightened her hold on Lucy. "Because I can't imagine living in a world that you aren't in." Tears silently fell down both their faces as they held each other.
Only Erza's chuckle broke the silence. "Well that is a conundrum because I can't imagine living in a world that you aren't in either." They seperated and smiled at each other. Lucy weakly punched Erza shoulder.
"Guess we're stuck with each other then." Lucy grabbed Erza's shirt to pull her into a kiss.
"I wouldn't have it any other way." Erza said right before their lips met. She knew they would be okay.
She smiled into the kiss.
