ݤ Chapter Four ݤ

~Saturn~

Things were becoming too complicated for my liking.

I had stayed up almost all of last night thinking about what was going on. First, there was the matter of my Grace. I didn't know what or who I was anymore...Then there was Travis. I hated his player attitude, the way he was always so cocky. He had probably shagged almost every girl at Normal High, even though we're only in the tenth grade.

Yet I think I liked him. He was cute and he had this mysterious visage about him. I couldn't figure him out it seemed- he had lied about our jokes meaning nothing, which meant it DID mean something to him. He had also given me that look...

I shook my head, reaching for the cereal. I poured some Coco Puffs into a bowl, along with some milk. I still didn't know if Ashley and Chad were back, but I didn't really care.

The phone rang and I picked it up, my mouth still full of cereal. "Hello?"

"Hey Sadie," I heard Kathy's voice. She was extra chipper this morning.

"Hey Kathy."

"Someone's Debby Downer this morning. What's wrong?"

My voice was unemotional as I answered. "Nothing is. I just got up."

"Oh...Well, is Travis there? He wanted me to call him..."

I was one second from hanging up on her. "Um, honestly, I don't know." (Actually, I knew he was asleep in the guest room.)

"Did he go back home?"

"Beats me." (No it didn't.)

"Hm...Well, if you see him, will you let me know?"

"Sure thing." (No I wouldn't.)

"Thanks so much Sadie!"

"You're welcome." (No she wasn't.)

The line went dead I think I heard angels singing 'Hallelujah' in the background. I know she's my best friend, but I still felt betrayed. For both Marcus and I.

The phone rang again the second I stepped out of the shower. I threw on a towel and ran down the hall, my wet hair flying behind me.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey there Sadie," Marcus laughed.

My breaths were heavy and labored, a small laugh coming out of me as well. "What's up?"

"Well, a bunch of my friends cancelled on me and I have no one to go to the Miami game with me. Would you go with me?"

For some reason, my heart skipped. "I'd absolutely love to! What time?"

"I'll pick you up at around two. Sound OK?"

"Sounds awesome, Marcus. See you then?"

"See then, Sadie."

I hung up, and as soon as I turned around to go back to my room, my eyes met Travis. He was standing there, his eyes looking me over and his mouth turned in a perverted smile.

"What?" I snapped. My patience was already thin with him, considering his dick move on Kathy.

"Nothing," he said as his eyes came to meet mine. "I just didn't know you were so slutty."

The towel was the only thing keeping me from beating him to the floor. I didn't say anything, though, for I had nothing to saw. It was a first, trust me.

"What? The princess doesn't have a comeback?"

I took a deep breath, trying to be the 'bigger person'. "No, actually," I huffed. "But I honestly had no idea that you were such a dick. I haven't done ANYTHING to you, and here you are, telling me that I'm a slut. You should honestly take a look at Olivia before saying something like that to me." I paused and looked at him seriously. "No wonder you don't have any real friends," I mumbled under my breath.

I pushed past him when he didn't say anything. I was to my room when he shouted something at me. "You're a real bitch, you know that?"

That's when I lost it.
