We began our travels in the air. With the abilities I'd learned over the centuries, I grew wings and carried Lin over the sea. Lin's laughter makes my heart full. He oohs and aahs as we see schools of fish and dolphins. But it is quickly apparent that his favorite part is actually flying. He screams in his joyous voice "Higher! Higher!" I gladly oblige and increase altitude. But soon I see his excitement grow and his jeering becomes immediately dangerous. My wings while magical are easily withered by the heat. I descend despite Lin's protests. When we reach land I drop to the ground and turn to him. "Have you heard on the story of icarus?" Lin stares at me in confusion. I sigh. "Icarus was the son of a master inventor. This inventor made the two of them wings to fly through the sky. But these wings were made of wax and were easily broken. His father warned him not to fly up too high. But while they were flying, Icarus was too arrogant and flew too high. He flew too close to the sun and his wings melted because of it. By the time he realized his mistake it was too late. He plummeted into the ocean. My wings are like icarus'. If I fly too close to the sun, my wings may go away and I don't know if I would be able to protect you." Lin looks upset by the tale. He pauses thoughtfully. "Ok Sam! I just have to make sure you dont go to high. I dont want us to fall." Lin's demeanor is amazing. I've never encountered a child with such worldly understanding. I guess that's because I haven't encountered a child I haven't had to kill in a few centuries. "Thank you for understanding." Upon Lin's request, we begin walking towards the city. Los Angeles. It's been decades since I last came here. I had decided to enjoy some of the newer areas back then. The cluster of Japanese shops that was known as "Little Tokyo" was easily my favorite. The continued tradition in the space was calming and refreshing. Japan has always been a personal favorite due to its continued traditions. It appears I'm not the only one with my heart stuck in the past. As Lin runs around to the different shops, I find a few snacks that he might like. I forgot what it's like to eat. Having learned to sustain myself through excess energy from the world's life force, I haven't needed to eat in a couple centuries. I find most of the food they have here fairly mediocre. But I do find a few things that might make Lin happy.
