Reina's eyes twitched open as the light piercing through the blinds jolted her out of her slumber. Still in a daze, she peaked at the unfamiliar room around her. The poster covered walls, the drum kit, dark red bedding — all things uncharacteristically unlike her own habitat. But the most daunting difference was the man in bed beside her. She shot up, clutching the sheets to her chest as she recounted the night through the slight hangover she had.
Roger. She couldn't help but grin to herself as she had conquered her quest in landing the man. He was still passed out in all his shirtless glory, hardly registering her absence beside him. As she recounted how well the night went in her mind, her stomach sank: work.
"Fuck!" She scrambled out of bed as quietly as she could, collecting her belongings from the floor. She threw her dress and coat on while making her way down the hallway, stopping to step into her heels. She was never one for awkward run-ins after one night stands, in fact, she was a proud walker of shame. So she had no problem taking the cab with a shit eating grin on her face.
As soon as she showed up to work in the same clothes as the night before, Mary knew exactly what happened.
"Couldn't even take yourself home to change before clocking in?" She snickered at her friend's expense, meeting her behind a rack of coats so their manager didn't see them gossiping on the floor.
"Shut up. I didn't exactly tell him to set him an alarm." Reina bit back, but her face relaxed after a second. "Holy shit, Mary. I had quite the fucking night."
"Emphasis on the fucking?" Mary raised her brows, pretending to rearrange the merchandise. "Did you leave him your number?"
"Oh god no." She scoffed, "Probably for the better."
"Why do you say that?"
"I don't know. I'm still trying to feel everything out. Don't want to end up with another Tim on my hands." Reina knew that Roger was nothing like Tim; she was just saying that to get Mary off her case. Deep down, she didn't want to admit that Roger was the best lay she'd ever had.
"Whatever you say. I'm sure you had a lot of fun feeling everything out last night." Mary giggled like a schoolgirl, earning a glare from Reina.
"You two! Back to work!"
The rest of the day had gone by dismally slow. Later that night, the girls were closing up the shop when Mary got a call. While she tended to her business, Reina went around making sure all the entrances were locked.
"That was Freddie. They have a gig tonight at a new pub tonight." Mary came around the corner with a grin on her face, throwing mischievous look Reina's way.
"And we're going, I'm guessing?" The girl questioned, shoving the keys in her purse.
"Wait a second! I'm not finished. This is for you." Mary handed her a piece of paper. Reina glanced down and saw a phone number written on it. "Fred said to give it to you. It's Roger's."
Reina bit her lip to conceal her excitement. She hadn't thought too highly of the other girls who fawned over him, so she refused to be another one. But here she was, giddy as could be that she got Roger Taylor's number. She slipped the paper in her bag without a word, glancing back at Mary.
"If I were you, I'd pick out a new outfit. Hate for you to wear the same one three nights in a row."
𝟏𝟏:𝟑𝟎 𝐏𝐌. 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐄.
The gig had gone extremely well. The crowd was a bigger size than their normal one at their uni, and the pints were much better. Reina and Mary had their fair share as the performance came to an end.
Backstage, everyone was celebrating the band's first real outing. It was evident that they weren't just a student band; they were going places.
"Oh, girls, thank god you're here." Freddie greeted Reina and Mary as they entered the antics, "What do you think of our new name. Queen."
"I find it fitting since you're all a royal pain in the ass." Reina quipped, a bit loose from all the beer she had. Luckily, they thought it was funny and didn't kick her out on her ass.
"You're an absolute riot." Freddie chuckled along, wrapping his arm around Mary as the two sat down on the couch. "You two fit right in. We have Mary, named after the Queen of Scots, and Reina, queen in Spanish. It's perfect."
Out of the corner of her eye, Reina saw the drummer she knew so well step out of the back door. She excused herself from Freddie and Mary, following suit. When she reached the exit, the cool air washed over her skin, making it break out in goosebumps. The dress she was wearing didn't exactly lend a hand in warmth.
"I was hoping you'd find me out here." Roger was sitting in the back of the van, a cigarette hanging out of the side of his lips just like the first time they had an encounter. The corner of her lips twitched into a smile.
"Can I sit?" She posed, eliciting a motion from the man welcoming her to join him. He offered her a smoke, lighting it once it sat between her red lips.
"Did Freddie give it to you?" Roger made the question as vague as possible, just in case she had know idea what he was talking about.
"Your number? Yeah." Reina grinned, blowing the smoke out into the dark of the night. "Guessing you gave it to me incase I ever wanted to be your study buddy."
This made Roger laugh. This whole thing was so foreign to him. He normally didn't feel the need to get to know the girls he slept with, it was just a night together and that was it. But he found himself interested in Reina. She was gorgeous and witty, and worst of all, she liked to keep him on his toes. He understood why Tim was so hung up on her now. Part of him wondered what was wrong with her, cause girls like this didn't pop up out of nowhere. It was ridiculous how much he was thinking into this considering they had spent the night together once.
"I figured you would need it since you couldn't wait to get out of there." He feigned offense. "You could've at least given me a goodbye kiss."
"And let you have the satisfaction? I could never, Taylor." She snickered. "But maybe I can make up for my mistakes tonight."
Roger grinned smugly.
"Sounds like a deal, Queen."
