She was known to be strong. She built up walls to protect herself. Yet, with him the walls collapsed. She couldn't block him out as she could with everyone else. And maybe that's why he could hurt her so easily. Because he had a special power over her that no one else had.
She fell for him, and he didn't catch her. He left her just to fall harder and harder with no return of the emotion, but just once wasn't satisfying enough. Every time she would pick herself up from each painful fall he would come back. He would confess his love to her and explain how leaving her was a mistake that he would never make again.
"Forever?" He would say, and she always replied the same "Forever." But in this case forever wasn't that long. He would build her up just long enough to watch her break again. And the worst part, she believed every word he told her. She knew he'd said the same things before, But she wanted to believe this time it was different. Yet, it never was.
Love is a cruel and painful thing when it is directed towards the wrong person. It can completely destroy you in a few words, or it can save you in even less. The love she had towards him was the wrong kind, though it felt so right at times. He made her so happy when they were together, But it always killed her when he left. She held on to the happiness he gave her, and that's probably why she couldn't let go of him.
Her thoughts were flooded with only him every minute of the day. The way he talked, the way he smiled, the way he made her feel, the way he looked in his new girlfriend's arms, the way he seemed happier in the pictures with the other girl, the way her heart ached for him. The list goes on and on, yet not a single thought of her filled his mind. Not anymore at least.
That's what hurt her the most. That he could forget her so easily when she couldn't bear to even hear his name without tears brimming her eyes. He was moving on though, and she knew she had to as well. She swore to herself to never go back.
And this is how they got to their the end.
