We have lunch together. She's the one doing most of the talking though, I just watch, wondering how I ended up sitting with her.
"Do you like movies?" She asks.
"Yeah."
"Cool. Then are you free later?"
"Yeah."
"I'm having a party later today, would you like to come?"
"Yeah." I say for probably the fifth time today.
"You don't talk much." She notices. "But it's okay. It's nice to have someone listen to me for once."
Says the girl that was surrounded by at least 5 people this morning who were hanging over her every word.
"Okay." I answer.
At that moment Sam comes in the cafeteria. As soon as he spots me his eyes go wide. He beckons me over but I pretend not to see him, then he walks to our table.
"Hi." He grits his teeth as he turns to me.
"Hey." Ashley smiles.
"May I borrow him?" He asks her.
"Actually we were-." She starts to say.
"Thank you." Sam yanks my hand and drags me out of the cafeteria.
"Really?!" He yells.
"What?"
"Sitting with the one person I warned you not to talk to. Are you thinking at all? What happened to survival?" He asks.
"She seems pretty harmless dude." I tell him.
"Of course she does, that's how she draws people in."
"I don't think I'm going to die by having lunch with her. So thanks for your concern but you can stop now."
I saunter past him and go back to my table but not before hearing him mutter."And so it begins, I hope for your sake you come out alive."
Whatever that guy is smoking. I don't want any part of it. I huff as I sit down by Ashley.
"Hey, are you okay?" She questions, concern evident in her features.
"I'm fine." I tell her.
Is this the big she -demon that Sam described? Like I said she's harmless.
A large guy walks into the room. His eyes scan the room for God knows what but they seem to settle on me for some reason. He rushed over to our table and picks me up by my shirt.
I look over to Sam and he mouths "I told you so."
The first punch is kind of soft but the second one will probably leave a mark.
"Stop it Lucas." Ashley growls.
"Why? He thinks he can be with what's mine."
"What's yours?" Ashley asks with an eyebrow raised.
"Nothing." He answers quickly and sets me down. "Stay away from my girl." He grits his teeth as he looks at me.
I scuffle to Sam's table.
He rolls his eyes at me and continues his meal.
"Sam." I cough.
He ignores me.
"Sam."
"What?"
"I'm sorry."
"Yeah you should be. Go ahead. Talk to Ashley again, let's see if he won't roundhouse you."
"Please man."
"Whatever. You're forgiven but don't you dare not listen to me again."
"Yeah yeah."
"I told you she's bad news , stay away."
My phone vibrated in my pocket and I check it to see a text.
Ashley:
I'm sorry about Lucas. Maybe I can fix your eye up for you if you come by the nurses' office later.
Me:
I'll be there in 10.
