chapter two

the plan

LILLIAN AND her family were sitting at the table eating their breakfast. It was like every other morning. Food was being thrown across the table, C.J. was over using the syrup, Lillian was having to to deal with this all, and Mr and Mrs. Palafox telling them to stop, ( which was the only thing they could do. )

"C.J! Go easy on the syrup!"

"Max, stop giving Kyle wet willies!"

Lillian sighed and continued to eat her eggs, but that was until a thick ball of snot landed dead center in the middle of her plate.

"Bulls-eye!" Jamie shouted, pumping his fist in the air.

"Dad! Jamie just spit in my food!"

"It's fine, Lilly. Just go wash it off and get another plate if you have to."

Lillian slammed her palms on the table and scooted her chair back. "I'm not hungry anymore." She stood up and left the kitchen.

"You get back here, young lady!"

She ignored the yelling and went to her room, slamming the door shut. She belly-flopped on her bed and screamed into her pillow.

She rolled over on her back and picked up her telephone and dialed Rose's number.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Rose. I-"

"Oh! Hey, Lilly! You actually called just in time! The sleepover is being canceled 'cause my family from California is coming to visit for the break. I'm so sorry."

"N-no, it's fine. I was just calling to say that I probably wouldn't be able to go anyways."

"Oh, okay. Well...see you soon, bestie!"

"See you, Rosy Cheeks."

She hung up the phone and then dialed Rachel's number.

"Get the hell out of my room, dipshit! Hello?"

"Hey, Rae. Did Rose tell you about canceling the sleep over?"

"Hey, Lils. Yeah, she did. I'm grounded anyways. Tyler, if you come in my room one more time, so help me, I'll beat you up! I got to go Lilly. Maybe we can talk later?"

"Yeah, of course! Bye, Rae."

"See you!"

Lillian hung up the phone and decided to just lay there until her brothers fell out dead from being hyper from all the sugar.

"Lilly! Can you come down here for a sec?" her father called.

She huffed and slowly crawled out of her bed, dragging my feet across the carpet. She took her time going downstairs.

Lillian sat in a chair across from her parents. "What?" she asked in an irritated tone.

"So," Mrs. Palafox started, "your father and I were thinking about your relationship with your brothers..."

"And we noticed that you all don't get along very well..."

"You're just now realizing that?" Lillian scoffed.

"That's not the point." Mr. Palafox stated. "The point is-"

"We want you to get along with your brothers. So, while your father and I fly out to Maine to visit your aunt, you're going to watch over Max, Luke, Kyle, Alex, Jamie, and C.J. until you all learn to get along."

Everyone in the house went silent and the kids' attention fell on their parents.

"Wh-what!? No! You cannot leave me in this house alone with them!" Lillian shouted. "All hell would break loose!"

Kyle vigorously shook his head. "Lilly can't babysit us!"

"Yeah!" C.J. added. "She never lets us have any fun!"

"That's because when you six are having fun, it turns into a circus in here!" Lillian argued back.

"Listen, Lillian. We're doing this whether you like it or not!"

"This is the worst punishment ever! I mean, it's not my fault that they are the way they are! And plus, Christmas is in three days!"

"We're leaving in the morning and we'll be back before Christmas, Lilly. So don't be surprised if you don't see us when you wake up."

Lillian let out a loud groan and headed back upstairs to her room. Meanwhile, the Palafox boys watched as their older sister stomped her feet and slammed her door shut.

"Do think she'll actually watch us?" Jamie asked.

Alex sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "I doubt it."

"Mom? Dad? Why does Lilly hate us?" C.J. asked as the rest of his brothers stared up at their sister's door, knowing that she was speaking bad about them.

"She doesn't hate you guys. I mean, yeah, you boys are rowdy and get out of hand, but that's the only side of you that she knows."

Max huffed. "She hates us at that's a fact. Nothing will change her opinion." He headed upstairs to the bedroom in which he and Luke shared.

Then Kyle and Alex sadly and slowly went to their rooms, then Jamie and C.J.

And it was true: Lillian did only know that side of her brothers, the loud and out of control side. But their other side, though, was never known to exist. This was because nothing ever triggered that side and they never got the type of love that they used to get as younger children.
