Except for you- A Saving Elliot one-shot

Dedicated to northbynorth, for frustrating the hell out of all her readers while still managing to keep us entertained by Jensen, Fintry, and all her other wonderful characters.

Finley household, 6:45, three weeks after graduation

Finley had thought long and hard about this moment. This was the moment that would change his life. After taking a deep breath, he opened his door and walked into the kitchen. Three plates were set around the small square table in the house he had grown up in. In the middle of the table was the roast his mom had spent all day cooking. His parents sat on opposite sides of the table, happily discussing their jobs.

Through his whole meal, Finley couldn’t bring himself to tell them the news and he’d barely touched his food because he didn’t feel as if he deserved it. His parents looked so happy sitting at the table, talking about the news. They had no idea what was about to come. Finley closed his eyes and tried to burn this last memory of his parents being happy into his memory. When he opened his eyes, his mother was looking at him concerned.

“Christopher, honey, you’ve barely touched your food. Is something bothering you?” His mother asked.

He looked up at them with sad but determined eyes and said, “I have to tell you guys something.”

“You know you can tell us anything,” urged his dad, now seeming also concerned. Finley took a deep breath and squeezed his eyes shut, making his parents that much more concerned. I can’t back down now, he thought, everything will be alright. Jensen’s parents accepted Carlisle, so there’s no reason why my parents won’t accept me.

“I'm gay,” he declared with certainty, watching as his parents’ eyes went wide, they looked at each other, and they didn’t say a word. For long, silence weighed down on them like a heavy blanket and Finley felt them slowly drift away like the tide, recoiling until he was sure there was no easy way out of this. Finally, his father turned to him with a stony look on his face.

“Get out of my house,” he ordered in a commanding voice, “and never come back.”

Finley felt his blood turn to ice. He looked to his mother for help, but she was in tears, looking at him in disgust. He turned back to his father, still not believing his eyes.

“But you can’t throw me out,” he started, “I'm your son-“

“You are no son of mine,” stated his father in a cold voice. Tears welled in Finley’s eyes.

                “Dad?” He croaked.

“It’s that Jensen girl isn’t it?” he asked sternly. “I should’ve known she was a bad influence. Her and her brothers are always up to no good. It was fine when they kept it to themselves, but bringing it into my home? I won’t stand for it, not today and not ever.”

                “But dad-”

“I won’t ask you again, Christopher. Get out of my house.”

Finley slowly got up from his seat, grabbed his coat and stomped out door.
